Anything remotely like McD's/BK's/Wendy's is a place where you fill your stomach up with sustenance (not necessarily food) as fast as you can with absolutely no worries about how good/bad it is for you. A 'restaurant' is a place where you take your time, (hopefully) get better food, have a REAL choice of foods that are good/bad for you, and come out feeling like you did something good for your body (most of the time).

Clear it up a bit? :D

Ah yes, fast food is not real food, that one never gets old. Same with anything from a chain - not really food.

Nope. Not at all. A restaurant is ANY commercial establishment where meals can be bought and eaten.

Look it up if you must, but that's a fact. So fast food places are restaurants so long as they have a place to eat your food.

Healthy food?

Somehow I doubt that it really much healthier than fast food.

Yep. Fine and casual dining establishments have some of the unhealthiest foods you can eat. They take normally healthy foods and drown it in whole butters, trans fatty oils, MSG and other things to make it taste better than the competition, and your own home cooking.

Don't be fooled.

And contrary to popular myth, a burger at your casual dining establishment is no healthier than a burger a BK or McDs. In fact, it's usually bigger and therefore more calories and bad fats. The servings of fries are usually larger as well and cooked in just as bad of stuff as the fast food joints.

agreed... and seriously, how many places can you come out feeling like you did something good for your body? maybe if you went to subway and had a sandwich with no sauce or cheese, or something...

One common term is a 'sit down' restaurant. It encapsulates both fine dining and casual dining. On the lower end, in price and quality, is the idea of a family restaurant (like Denny's).

I was wondering the same. For the most part, the food that tastes the best is NOT good for you. Food that is good for you doesn't taste all that great. And who wants to pay restaurant prices for something that doesn't taste all that great?
