What do you bowl?

Just started bowling a few months ago. I'm about a 150 average at the moment, high is 217. Anyone else here bowl? What your average?

i stopped bowling when i moved into NYC. it's too expensive at $8/game and $5/shoes, and $20min/pitchers. i bowled in a league back when i attended Rutgers and my average on paper was 180+ and on the rise. my high game was 234, which i hit twice. i miss the days of cheap bowling...*sigh*

I rolled a 67 last week! I terribly suck at bowling.

My friend, however, rolled 228 and it was his first time bowling in about six months. He used to average in the 240's.

What blew me away though.... when I was bowling last week, one guy who bowled there the night before rolled back-to-back 300's!! Is that crazy or what? It's all they could talk about in the place that day.

$8 a game? Yikes! I'd never get to go at that rate. At the very least, you can get some bowling shoes from amazon for $20 shipped and save $5 there.

I always try to go when local alleys have specials, $2/game Sunday Mornings, $1.5 game Monday/Tuesday night, $1/game Thursday/Friday afternoon.

i have my own shoes and equipment now. but since it's so expensive in NYC, i don't even bother going anymore. you can't beat those $1/game $1/shoes $3/pitcher nights in the suburbs.

Wow. That's unheard of, I've never even seen a 300, much less 2 in a row.

Depending on how much beer I've had, I bowl anywhere between 120 and 180 (the more beer, the better I get). My highest game ever was 244, but that was when I was about 14.

Hah, bowling. I'm the most inconsistent bowler in the world. I bowl a couple of times a year, and lately it's been more like once a year. I usually bowl in the 80s, but once bowled a 231 or 232 (it was years ago). Last time I bowled (~10 months ago if that tells you anything about my frequency), my first game was in the 80s and my second was in the 190s. Talk about inconsistency. Sometimes I can put it the same place in every frame, sometimes I get 2-3 gutters in a row.

A few of my friends are like that too. Can get several strikes or gutter balls in a row. Neither surprises me. Are you a straight bowler? Do you throw a hook? Traditional grip? Fingertip grip? Thumb? No thumb?

Normally bowl in the 130's to 150's, but I haven't gone in forever. I only broke 200 once.

Left handed hook ftw.

Must make the 7 pin tougher tho. 🙂

Man I love bowling. It took me forever to learn how to hook correctly - I started with a house white dot when I was a kid, and figured out that I could hook it if I took my thumb out and angled my wrist a bit. Then I moved up to a Beast, and it hooks naturally, so I had to unlearn the forced hook or I would cover the entire lane and back without hitting a damn thing!

My parents were bowlers, mostly for the social life...when my dad passed my mom kept it up, and started winning money, which is what hooked me!!

My kids love it. I don't get into all the fancy equipment some of these folks do, but my only real advice is to make sure you get your own ball and learn it.....

I just got a new ball for xmas. I had been using a 20 year old hammer before that. Man, this thing hooks SO much more. Still getting adjusted to it though.

Bowled a 200 even yesterday morning. Unfortunately I only average around 150.

Nice!

I'm surprised so many here average 150+.

That's pretty good.

im usually around 150-175 and ive bowled barely over 200 twice. but its expensive! i usually find myself gravitating towards the pool tables anyways.
