There's a great burger joint here that does the burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches thing. Probably copied it from there. Friends have tried it and sworn by it. Their other burgers are phenomenal.
That sounds great, add a fried egg or two and it would be perfect.

American Cheese is the only cheese that belongs on a burger. You simply cannot get the same melt from any other cheese, unless you reverse engineer more refined cheeses.

And I will fight anyone on the subject.

I assume you have never tried it. Because if you did, you would not need to ask this question.

I've tried it a couple times at restaurants I like otherwise and I've always thought it was just unnecessary. It doesn't ruin it but it's not making the burger better. Just felt like they were adding shit to make it more trendy and gourmet so they could charge extra for it.

That's how I feel about eggs too. Nice runny egg yolk on a burger is good, but I have to be in the mood for it.

I make them every couple weeks or so. The kids really love smash burgers on the griddle/hibachi. Sharp cheddar, keychup or bbq sauce, maybe tomato. Stuff is next level on the griddle.

No burgers for me recently, though. Been trying to lose a little weight. Dropped 13 lbs over the last month. More kale smoothies than burgers.

Eh? Provolone, cheddar, swiss, monterey jack all melt fine. Unless you are buying fake cheese.

American Cheese is the must on a burger. It is a cheese that serves only a few purposes - one being the go to pairing for a burger. Another being the go to pairing for an egg and cheese or egg, meat and cheese sandwich. It can also serve it's purpose on a few sandwiches. That's it.
Grilled cheese as well sir. I like mixing a slice of American, with a few shavings of cheddar cheese, sandwiched between two slices of buttered bread.

Mmmmmmm good.
