I have a question. Lots of posters say that there are "good" moslems. That islam is not a violent religion, and does not condone terrorism.
We know that moslems can declare a "Fatwa". Bin Laden and Arafat have promulgated and used terror, and killed innocent men, women, and children. If in fact their religion rejects such acts, when will a fatwa be declared against these vermin? Surely, their actions besmirch Islam to a far greater extent than did the novelist Salman Rushdie - who was rewarded with a death sentence in a fatwa.

They all want every Jew dead....

<< Languages: Persian official language and native tongue of over half the population. Spoken as a second language by majority of the remainder. Other Indo-European languages, such as Kirmanji (the collective term in Iran for the dialects spoken by Kurds), as well as Turkic languages and Arabic also important. >>

Umm...the library of congress says PERSIAN is the official language...hmmm

<< Stark, Iran is not a Arab nation. >>

I tend to see the middle east as divided between the sons of Ishmael (Muslims/Arabs) and the sons of Isaac (Jews). Perhaps this is oversimplification.

I know Iranians like to say they are Persian. I don't know what that means.

Not all muslims are Arabs, the reason Iranians are not Arabs is because they originated from the Arian race. It's like saying all people in Asia are Chinese and Communists.

Just speaking from experience (I was born in Pakistan and all of my family and half of my community is from there -though we're not Muslim)

Regardless of what the pathetic puppet gov't says, the people in Pakistan who have the real power hate America, period. Furthermore, Pakistan has one of the most unstable and corrupt governments in the world - I would not trust them for half a second regarding anything, especially something as important as a military alliance...

There's nothing stopping yet another internal military takeover of the govt by fundamentalists who wouldn't think twice about totally ambushing American troops in Pakistan... I would not be at all surprised if this happens because Afghanis have been coming to Pakistan in such numbers over the past year or so that they already have considerable political clout - mostly because they're violent/ruthless fanatics...

Afghanistan is a wasteland to begin with... The cost of the missiles/bombs we drop on them would be worth more than what we destroy... The effort needs to be spent on identifying, infiltrating and assassinating the members of the terrorist groups themselves... Killing Bin Laden is only a step... His officers need to be eliminated and, most importantly, the sources of their funds need to identified and eliminated... We also need to set our crosshairs on anyone assisting the Taliban, in Afghanistan, America, or anywhere else, whether they are a simple henchman or an uncooperative head of state...

Finally - the long term solution lies with our scientists. Once we have a cheap and efficient alternative to oil - which will at some point have to become a reality - the wealth of the Arab nations will deteriorate as will their power. Their economies are entirely based on that one commodity and if it wasn't for that commodity all of those nations would be as broke as Afghanistan and, without the substantial monetary resources at their disposal, large-scale terrorism would be more difficult. Of course it could take like 100 years for this to happen but that really isn't verylong as far as the history of nations is concerned. Furthermore, the oil lobby probably isn't going to allow their elimination anytime soon - especially with this administration in office. However, destroying the economies of all countries that support terrorism (via complete UN boycotts, suspension of aid, etc) would be grossly inhumane as it will be the poor who suffer first, as in Iraq...

Anyways - just some thoughts - feel free to agree/disagree
