hmm interesting, I'll have to look for some.

I haven't seen any research, but the people I've read or heard about say what doing that basically does is re-trains your body to live on less food and make you feel fuller. So not really a diet per say.

I know when I lose a bunch of weight I can no longer eat the same amount of food as before. My gut just feels like it's going to explode.

Fasting gives breaks in the bodies insulin production which helps prevent insulin resistance and diabetes. When insulin runs out the body will switch from glucose to fat as it's primary energy source. I believe it takes about 12 hours for that to happen so in a 20 hour on and 4 off fast you'd have 8 hours of fat burning. During the eating periods you are supposed to eat what you want and eat until you are full. This prevents the body from thinking there is a calorie deficit which leads to less energy burned and slower weight lost.

If anyone is interested in the subject, the Obesity Code goes into great lengths about the effects of the modern diet on insulin production in the body. It goes over the science of why every diet works and then doesn't work. This is the author Dr. Jason Fung.

I wonder why it’s not recommended for people with type 2 diabetes. It sounds like a tool that could help mitigate the condition.

IIRC because people with diabetes already have issues with insulin production and in case of fasting can quickly lead to a thoroughly ruined state.

This+ Being diabetic I have to watch my blood sugar levels to ensure it doesn't drop or gets too high. So fasting is out of the question for me.

I think all diets are for quick effect. But if you really want to lose weight I think you need long-term nutrition plan which is not so exhausting. 3 healthy meals per day with 2 snacks should be okey. Of course those 3 healthy meals should be at the small portions.

Soooo ... eating less will make you lose weight.

Who woulda thought????

My sustainable/healthy "diet" if you want to call it that, which I don't since I associate the term diet with something temporary, is to just eat well during the week and then on the weekends I pretty much eat whatever I want.

I can go with this as this is close to what I usually do.

Lol

I get it, but if science has ways to effectively help out then what’s the harm?

You work out, right? So that helps out with letting you eat whatever you want.

Healthy food is the key: fruits, vegetables, water, proteins.I don't like diets though I've tried many of them. I lost weight and health with it. Now I try to eat healthy and exercise regularly. That's all.

Snort!!! Where is the evidence that Intermittent Faster is beneficial? Another Quack Dieting Scheme.
I do it but only because I have a histamine intolerance.

https://www.healthline.com/health/histamine-intolerance

I can either give up the foods on that list or eat them in moderation and sometimes splurge on them. If you look at the list you'll see why I don't avoid them! If I end up getting a histamine reaction I just fast for a day and then take it easy on the banned stuff and everything settles down.

I see that freshly caught fish is on the safe list, but isn't canned tuna high in histamine if heated up? At least I don't feel quite right if I consume heated canned tuna.

Which is why I always prepare it by putting the can in the fringe long enough to get cold. Then I will make tuna salad out of it.

I dont really like canned tuna so its not an issue for me. It was more the alcohol, cheese, cured meats (bacon!), chocolate and coffee!

I dont think that chilling the tuna will have any effect on the histamine content, that said theres no reason to worry about it unless you react to histamines.

If you’re looking to lose weight, living healthier, and feeling better then always prefer to eat a healthy diet like carbs, protein, calories, nuts and so on. The meals and snacks in your diet should be like fiber-rich fruits, vegetables and whole grains, lean protein and fats like olive oil and avocado etc and these are some general healthy foods.
