archaeologist - because my Dad has always been into ancient history and some of that rubbed off, or...
architect - because I was actually interested in it, had some genuine talent at drafting, and legitimately should have pursued this as my career

Instead, I ended up being a software monkey

A buddy of mine is an architect. he complains about how he should've been a systems architect in the software world as that pays much better.
