When I was in elementary school I wanted to be a Super Saiyan.

In middle school I wanted to be a Quickscoper.

And in high school MMA fighter.

I don't think that's an actual position :^D Pretty much just Special Forces. The recruiter was dying to get me, but I backed out. That was for the best. I don't get along well in bureaucracies.

Nothing. But in high school I once said I wanted to be a scientist. I was made fun of for that.

Also in high school I one day adapted a big circular pin similar to a political pin, around 3" in diameter illustrating "I am God." I think it was genius. I wore it all day at school and at the end of the day I had the distinct feeling that not a single person noticed. It was kind of a letdown.

I wanted to be Invincible and bring balance and peace to the world.

Guess Mr. Invincible wasn't in the cards for me. Failed to come across any top secret govt project looking to use radiation to transform volunteers into superheroes.

After a certain point I only aspired to be enlightened. Everything flows from that, but as Alan Watts noted, it's a fools errand to try! ;) A guiding principle for me throughout my life has been to try to not paint myself into a corner. Therefore I didn't want to become an anything.

I wanted to be a plumber, and then later on electrician, then we got our first computer and decided I wanted to go in tech.

Probably should have stuck with plumber or electrician. I'd be making more money and have more job security. Although I'm in a pretty cushy tech job now so can't complain. it's just the job security that always worries me as tech jobs are super easy to outsource/relocate/automate.

If I did lose my job I'd probably consider trades though. Too late in life to start the process of getting licensed to do electrical (that takes YEARS, and need a way to pay the bills...) but there are some trades like drywalling and painting that don't require a license.

Create your own small software company with outsourced programmers. Start small and gradually level up until the income allows you to leave your job.

I actually do have an idea for a product but more electronic/embedded programming related but would have a server portion too. It's nothing super special but also not something that is really available at consumer level. Need to actually start on it at some point. If I got it going it could be a 1 man operation. Though if it grew big I'd do more stuff in house then hire people. At first I'd be outsourcing things like the PCB and maybe even SMD assembly.

I was real tired of boring low paying jobs with absolutely zero security and got the idea in the early 1990's that IT was a path I could pursue to get somewhere! I started taking city college IT courses. DOS, Lotus 1-2-3, desktop publishing, database programming, bought a used desktop, later started building my own computers.

DBase IV?

What was the last PC you built for a client? I gather that you don't do much PC related stuff these days, right? Got tired of it?

Lotus 1-2-3 and Miami Vice, that was the shit right there. Can't forget Reversi. I feel bad for Nebraska, they never got to experience that.

Who says dreams don't come true! :p

(shame we don't get to pick which ones!)
Life is like driving a car. The gearbox has infinite levels. In order to bring about the reality you dream of, you need to switch into the right gear. Some people do that with hard work and conquering goals one step at a time. Others cheat and find shortcuts. But the most powerful among us simply will their dreams into reality. That's the power of the mind. Free your mind, Neo.

And some of us apparently never learned to drive a stick! ;)
