Well I know I certainly feel safer knowing irresponsible people can carry a concealed weapon.

You've NEVER forgotten to lock something? Lost your car keys?

You've NEVER made an innocent mistake?

I certainly feel safer knowing ATOT is populated with virtually perfect god like creatures.

WOW...

you are wrong on this one.

you can not compare car keys or a innocent mistake to forgetting a weapon such as a gun.

he thought he had it and went to do something. then lost track of it and thought it was stolen. all the time its been in his sock drawer.

that is irresponsible. no way around it.

Oh bullsh!t. He usually has it on him. He forgot to lock the car and the first thing he checked for was the gun. He panicked.

It can happen to anyone. To a CCW person a gun is in the same category as your wallet and keys. It's a daily item you take with you.

I am not wrong on this one. I CCWed for nearly 15 years before moving to IL where it is illegal. I still transport a gun in the car when I work in one of my stores.

It was an innocent mistake. One that thankfully turned out OK. But one ANYONE could do, even you... though you'll never admit it because you can't get off your high horse long enough to admit you're not perfect.

But you guys acting like you're infallible are just a fscking hoot.

WOW...

I have never forgotten to lock my car, apt, etc.

I have never lost any keys, personal or company.

I have never locked my keys in my car.

I certainly have NEVER misplaced a GUN.

And you're either 12, or lying your ass off.

Anyhow, where, did that AK-47 go? I swear, I must have left it on top of the kitchen counter, but now it isn't there! Yeah, yeah, I knew I'd take crap for it, but it was too much to not tell. I about died when my wife presented me with my own handgun.

You know how fast your mind thinks -- "Maybe the police found it and dropped it off? No, they'd call me first. Maybe she had hidden it from me and was teasing the whole time? No, she knows how upset I was. Maybe I just left the sucker at home in the first place!"

The whole morning was quite a blur anyhow, worrying about how to drive to a new place in the morning, wondering what questions I might be asked in jury selection, what the case might be about, etc. etc. -- my mind was racing all morning. I plan to keep myself more focused, so that this never happens again. And although I would rarely use it, I can see the value of having some sort of mini safe in the car.

while i may misplace my keys etc. but it has not happened in years. When i walk in the door my keys/phone/change/wallet go in a drawyer right next to the door. so when i leave its always with me no matter if i change clothes etc. i would hope someone with a CCW would treat the gun with better care then i do some non-deadly keys.

i would hope someone would take much more care with a weapon. AT least i always thought people would. to find out that you guys don't care about this is scarry.

Your routine was thrown off. Happens all the time and that is exactly why you misplaced/forgot it.

I'm 25 and I'm not lying. Sure I have forgotten some things, but not these things. I'm very meticulous about them. Keys always go in the same spots every single time. I can't lock my keys in the car because I can't lock my car without the alarm fob which...my key is on :p

The point is, while it may be the same as a wallet or keys to someone who is a CCW person, it should NOT be that way.

The responsibilities that are associated with concealed carry are not to be taken lightly, which it seems like equating them to keys or a wallet is exactly what you're doing.

I'm all for concealed carry, but if you're going to, you should be more responsible.

Personally, I'm much rather the OP have the gun than some criminal have it. Yeah, he *forgot* what he had done with it. Mistakes happen. If anything, I'm sure he'll be more responsible with it from now on.

He was not careless with his weapon. He was very upset with himself for his forgetfullness. He seems to be very careful with his weapon... except for this one INNCENT BRAIN FART... we all have them at least a few times in our lives.

He cares, and I care. It was a silly mistake that could have resulted in a criminal having control of his weapon. It is NOT, however a case for him losing his right to own or carry a weapon, or be hung up by the balls. Why? Because it was an INNOCENT mistake we ALL could make and have made.

OK guys. How about next time you have a brain fart and forget ANYTHING or forget to lock ANYTHING, you should lose your rights to own/use that object?

People are fallible. This extends to EVERYTHING in their lives. What matters is do they take due caution. In this case he does. He had ONE minor brain fart and you want to strip him of his Constitutional Rights.

WTF people? He knows it was stupid. But I can see that it is NOT the norm. Too bad you guys cannot.

Meh you have to remember that guns are rare and exotic to many people. They may have never even held one let alone carried one on a daily basis. So of course they can't understand how it is just another object to the op that you leave the house with everyday.

It should not be. It _is_ different.

exactly, a gun is a gun and a key is a key. if you own a gun you need to take responsiblity for it. he didnt know where his gun was, what if a child found it? then you'd be singing a completely different tune.

If you can forget one thing, you can forget ANYTHING. One does not suddenly become an infallible god just because a gun is involved. Sure you be as careful as humanly possible... but one can still forget.

Sure it was a mistake. But between you trivializing the mistake, and others blowing the severity of it out of proportion, neither side is better than the other.

The fact is, mistakes do happen. However, when you take on the responsibility of owning a firearm, because of that responsibility you should be extra cautious not to let mistakes happen. The potential consequences of forgetting your wallet are much different than forgetting a loaded firearm in an unlocked car in the center console.

It's the same as a cashier vs. a bookkeeper. A cashier can misplace $100, but when I was a bookkeeper in charge of $60,000 in cash coming through the store a day, and quadruple that in credit transactions, if I wasn't careful I could've lost my job and thrown off the accounting for the company in a big way. Because of the increase responsibility, you need to take extra caution.

So, it is completely cool and fine to lose your firearm, just like it is fine to lose your lighter or keys? Just to clarify, y'know, so I can add it my list of STUPIDEST THINGS EVER.

Amused I don't think people understand how much a firearm becomes a part of you/your routine. OP wasn't careless or irresponsible. It could have happened to anyone. All I've read from OP is very good ownership actions and if anybody deserves to carry it should be Randalee.

I'd love to hear some law enforcment folks chime in.

Why not read my posts, huh?

No, it is not cool. Yes, one should be as careful as HUMANLY POSSIBLE not to lose their weapon or leave it unsecured.

But humans are fallible. Have you EVER lost something you really did not want to lose? We all have. We try like hell not to, and most succeed by diligence combined with a little luck.

This was a completely innocent mistake made by someone who is normally VERY careful with his weapon.

Come back when you have NEVER made an innocent but stupid mistake in your life.

so it is ok to forget your baby/child in an amusement park? your dog maybe? There are things that you NEVER forget. Like carrying a wad of cash, or a GUN
