If you keep having kids while you're living off unemployment, you should be cut off. Those on welfare should have a limit on how many kids they can have, because they cost extra for the regular taxpayer to support. If you can't support the kids, don't have them. It's that simple. The kids can be taken into foster homes, and the deadbeat parents are left to fend for themselves after 3-6 months of unemployment.

unemployment =/= welfare
unemployment is not paid for by taxpayers

Bah to all this neo-con bullshit.

I work my ass off and have since I was 14. I've been laid off before, most horribly right after 9/11 - they shipped out my entire center and there was very little work to be found in NYC. Unemployment, something I paid in to, helped me survive the 3 months it took me to find a job.

Yea, so instead of saving the money that you were "paying into" the government for "just in case" unemployment, you are mandated to pay it. What happens if you don't get laid off, for years? Hell, what if you never get laid off because you work for someone awesome like Honda? What if the only time you'd ever leave would be for another job?

The point is, all that money could of been money you kept and managed yourself. Making it a completely moot point, because then you'd have something if/when you got laid off.
Bah to all this socialist bullshit. I can manage my own money and my own life - I don't need the government to hold my hand and tell me where to shit.

All of what money YOU kept and managed?

You do realize that the unemployment tax is employer paid and amounts to (different rates, different states, different industries) about 6.2% of the first $7000 you earn in a year, amounting to $434/year MAX...AFAIK, very few states require any deduction from the employee's pay, but when they do, it's only a few cents per week.

Unemployment Insurance never amounts to much for those who collect it.

It's not "wage replacement," it's not enough to pay the bills in most cases. It MIGHT be enough to help get by till you find a job...but that's about it.

If you don't wat to collect unemployment benefits if & when you lose your job...don't file. It's that simple. No one forces you to apply for those benefits, they don't come kicking in your door to force you to take them.

As for telling you where to shit...I think someone should because you sure shit here often enough...

Yes, I can tell you from current personal experience (laid off since 11/05/2008), Missouri unemployment insurance pays me about 40% of my old salary with no benefits. It's definitely not enough to pay the bills by itself. Also, the concept of COBRA insurance is a complete joke. They wanted more than what I make in unemployment benefits each month to keep my old benefits going. I could only see COBRA insurance "benefiting" those with long term illnesses in the family, and who would otherwise be uninsurable. Three months of emergency medical with $1000 out of pocket from BCBSKC was about half of what one month of COBRA insurance ran.
