What did Muhammad look like, anyway?

With all of this fervor over people drawing pictures of Muhammad, it makes me wonder what the guy actually looked like and why depicting him is considered to be so unholy.

Seriously, what's the deal with this? Was the guy horribly disfigured? Only have one eye? Have a cleft palate or something? I don't get it.

Can someone with ties to the Islamic faith enlighten me here?

Edit: 17,000th post! WooHoo! Too bad I spelled Muhammad wrong.

It's sort of how Christians have rules against idols. Just arbitrary religious nonsense.

Just a normal guy. It's just some weird rule but at least it's not as weird as a lot of those christian rules.

Yeah, but Jesus had a habit of resurrecting himself and popping up in different places. The Christians thought that he did it once, and the Mormons think that he showed up twice.

It's an amusing thought... maybe all of these religions sprang up around this time because Jesus was busy doing a world tour :)

Wouldn't it be hilarious though if Jesus, Muhammed, Bhudda, etc were either A) totally fake and made up or B) the same person, and the whole religion cluster fuck is totally off base? That or if heaven was real and you got there, and Jesus was all like, ahhhhhhhhhh I got youuuuu!!! It's me dude!! Jesumuhammbhudda!

Ah yes, that was a Monday in 628. Mohammed and a few of his friends rode out to a little town on a nearby river and had a picnic with a few of the townspeople. They discussed his new religion and he let them know that could join if they felt like it, or not, whatever. Then they all had a smoke and he went home.

If extremists were not murdering people over this, would folks still create offensive and/or crude images of Mohammed?

I think it was more like 600 or so years after, and Islam readily recognizes Jesus as a Prophet. The distinction is that, under Islam, Muhammad is the Last Prophet. They don't recognize any of the resurrection bullshit, and don't really attribute much in the way of divine magic to the prophets.

Muhammad's big thing was "peacefully" uniting a large region of differing religious opinions and creating a sole religious empire of sorts. He spoke of peace and whatnot, but ultimately, I think history would also show a violence necessary to conquer regions. A necessary violence that is justified in the outcome, perhaps.

I might have some of that wrong, I'm no authority on the subject...
