OK, I got it to turn on, and am backing up A>B. You can only change B. Great idea ! But I think I will give up[ on this, I know I flashed the BIOS correctly.

Got the CPU and memory on ebay, next the motherboard ! Going to go to Ryzen 3000 series with all of my Xeons.

2690v3 can run all 12c @ 3.4ghz (~2200CB)/ 10c @ 3.5ghz (~1750CB).
2697v3 can run all 14c @ 3.4ghz (~2550CB)/ 12c @ 3.6ghz (~2350CB).
This is what the difference between these two CPUs.
For comparison,
Ryzen 2700x scores (~1650CB @ stock) / (~1940CB @ 4.3ghz OC).
i9 9900k @ 5.1ghz scores ~ 2100CB.

2678v3 = 168 USD / 148 euro -> 3.1ghz all 12c (1900CB) / 3.3ghz 10c.
2690v3 = 325 USD / 285 euro
2695v3 = 317 USD / 279 euro -> 3.1ghz all 14c / 2.3ghz 12c.
2697v3 = 470 USD / 413 euro. (You can always bargain / negotiate on aliexpress)

Now, you decide which one to buy, this is why I said single xeon is not worth if you can get good deal on used 9900k or ryzen 2700x. Buying xeon is worth only if you're going to use more than 1 GPU (40 pcie lanes vs 16 +8 lanes), more than 64GB memory (64gb per slot vs 16gb per slot), multiple nvme ssd, quad channel memory (2133mhz in quad will give same bandwidth as 4200mhz in dual, such high speed memory will only work with 9900k, not sure about newer ryzen 9). If getting dual cpu mobo + dual 2678v3 (3700CB), then it can easily beat a highly overclocked 2950x in multithreaded workload. Dual cpu will have 8ch 2133mhz + 80 Pcie lanes. I have not used plex mp or streamlabs obs stream, but you'll be fine as streaming workloads uses multiple threads.
I decided to go for the 2690v3. For what im planning to do, the 2697v3 is not that much better than the 2690v3. is it ok to PM you as i got all the parts @topmysteries5 ?

If you got 2690v3, then no problem. Its still a good cpu. 2697v3 is little better bcoz it can run 12c @ 3.7ghz which 2690 cant. Games and daily use apps love higher single thread performance. It beats 9900k and 2700x in multithread due to more cores.

Change of plan and I picked up an x99-e ws usb 3.1 board for a reasonable price to put the 2697v3 into. I have it up and running on a test bench but having trouble downloading the bios with mc removed from the link below of asus bios I found when reading through this thread.

https://pan.baidu.com/s/1kVFrs15#list/path=/ASUS X99 remove MC

Is there any alternative source for a bios for this board?

ETA: Maybe I should just download a bios and attempt to remove the microcode. I am a bit anxious about doing that because I am not sure I have an understanding of all of this (I overthink everything way too much).

I downloaded the latest bios for my board and opened it in UBU but I am struggling a bit to make sense of it since it looks like options are different than what I see back in the beginning of this thread.

I have read through most of this thread more than once but I guess I need to educate myself some more.

I cannot get the modded bios on this board via flashback for the life of me. Just errors out immediately and solid light on the flashback button after momentarily flashing.

I have tried both old/ new versions of UBU and using the latest version it appears to function correctly (although process is different than older version), resulting in the correctly name .cap file. Checking with MMTool it looks like all the microcodes are removed (below screen shot) but I cannot get it to flash.

I am not sure what I am missing here, suggestions? Any input is appreciated, I read back through this thread a number of times and must be overlooking something.

ETA: I am happy to admit I discovered the issue and it is in the process of flashing now! This is one of those moments I feel stupid. Apparently Asus boards are extremely picking about the flash drive used and for proof of concept I tried flashing back just a stock bios, unsuccessfully. I thought I had checked to see if the drive I was using was compatible but literally 6 different flash drives later (all freshly formatted fat32) I FINALLY found my last one seemingly working. Another reason to never pitch even very small and many year old flash drives.

So far I seem to be able to get my 2697v3 to 3.5 all core for cinebench which is a nice improvement.

Running a microcode stripped 3803 bios with mce set to 36 all core, svid disabled, and llc set to 6... using an x27 microcode in windows.

Will probably try a 104-105 bclk next to see if its stable.

Hello,
would anyone be kind enough to make me a mod bios?
I tried on my asrock x99 extreme 6 and it has bricked my motherboard (fortunately there is a bios backup ^ ^)
I have a xeon e5-2696v3 and it would be cool to be able to use its full potential ^^
sorry if my sentences are not correct, I go through google translation ^^ "

I link the bios of my motherboard

thank you in advance

I make it 2 bios for your motherboard;

X99EX63.51 : Only microcode removed
X99EX63.52 : Microcode removed + C6 disabled on default + V3 efi driver injected to bios (-50mv) / (Untested)

X99EX63.51

Great!!! it works !!!
a big thank-you
I put the 2nd and currently I am at 3.2Ghz on the 18 core without avx and 2.9ghz with avx.

I see you go up to almost 3.5Ghz with yours.
how did you do? it depends on something?

Great!

I got 3.5ghz with -95mv but that was super extreme undervolting, so my cpu is also unstable at these values. Im now using daily -65mv @3.3Ghz

Indeed, it's less cool when it's not stable. It was mostly for the benchmark I imagine ^^
So, are my values good?
I say again a very big thank you for your help

You're welcome

I think you should try -65mv -70mv

It is necessary to recreate a bios or one can modify this value in the bios?

Maybe you can use bios menu for voltage offset because i didn't lock the msr on the second bios image.
or you can use first bios image + any efi driver you can find in this thread/github

When you find perfect voltage offset for your system, i can make another custom/injected complete bios image for you.

Ok, it looks a little complicated. I think I stay on the one you made me. Will the gain be great if I go to -65mv -70mv? I thank you for your help

Hi guys, greetings, first post here!

I've got an Asus X99-A (original, not ii, or USB3.1) mobo and I happened across a Xeon E5-2690 v3 QS chip that I installed & got running great at stock speeds... but I do a lot of video work, so I'd like to speed it up if I can, and it seems others have had good success with this chip.

First I tried to modify my own, but I see that UBU changed very much from the version that the instructions on page 3 were written for & I can't figure out how to remove the microcode with the new version 1.74 of UBU - and I did look through a lot of pages for instructions on the new version, but didn't see it. Apologies if it's out there and I missed it. Then I see that someone made a "no microcode" BIOS for this machine previously & put it on Baidu, but even with the help of Google Translate I can't register on Baidu because it don't accept registration from my country.

Soooo... is there any kind person that could either tell me how to remove the microcode with the current version of UBU 1.74, or help me out with the no microcode version of the BIOS for my system? Please?

Asus X99-A BIOS v3801 (latest non-beta):

Thanks!
