The best console ever: Super Nintendo.

I wish I had one. An emulator can't capture the full effect.

I have a PS2. I use it for DVDs mostly. I played FFX and MGS2. I think they were worth the price of admission.

I also would recommend the xbox. It started off slow but is really starting to take off.

I got a dreamcast already

I have been a big Nintendo fan forever. I have had every system they ever made but have sold them off over the years. Gamecubve does have Metroid (big fan) and Zelda (also a big fan). Looks like I am geoing to get the XBox though. However, I am considering getting a gamecube later on.

I have a GameCube. It was relatively cheap, and I don't have a lot of time for gaming so even a few great titles are more than enough for me. Hell, I've been playing Zelda alone for like three months now because I can't play as much as I'd like to (it's a really great game).

Plus, my buddy has an Xbox so I can go over there to play some Halo or whatever.

Although you've made your decison, I'll weigh in just in case someone else is deciding.

If you want to play multiplayer, go xbox. Halo is great when you have people over, halo 2 should follow the same tradition. There'd xbox live, you'll usually find good gaming to be had when games are newer, but I've heard people playing kind of drop off after the game gets older. Knights of the Old Republic just was released, apparently it's VERY good (I won't be able to play it for another month or so:().

Singleplayer gaming or RPGs, ps2 is where it's at. MGS2, Kingdom Hearts, FFX, Tenchu3, Dynasty Warriors 4, both grand theft autos, you've got gaming goodness everywhere. My PS2 sees a lot of action

Gamecube, stellar first party games, but you've got to wait for them.

The xbox can also be modded, which is great if thats your sort of thing. I don't have the steady hand for soldering that's required (not always needed but it's the only way to "do it right").

I don't believe the vice city rumor, I can't believe sony's lawyers are dumb enough to not close up a loophole that big. They DID renegotiate the agreement after Vice City was released remember.

i can't believe anyone likes KH i played that game for about 20 hours and just decided it was not worth

the graphics are alright the game play is horrible and the story is decent

you have to do so much back tracking and the it is so repetitive it just gets old real fast it is inferior to zelda in every way IMO and i dont even think zelda TWW is that great

a link to the past was much better

anyway back to the topic

i say PS2 best selection of games

X box does not have enough exclusives IMO

Star Wars KOTOR looks really good but I think I'd rather play the PC version like so many other X-box games

online is great but i still think pc online gaming is better

but the mod factor is appealing

if you dont have a good PC i guess X-box would be a good choice but if you do i would get a GC of PS2

GC some great games Metroid Prime , Zelda, Fzero coming and Mario Kart all of which are / will be superb but IMO metroid and zelda were best done on SNES which is probably the best console ever

I own all three of the next gen consoles and by far, I have to say I like the xbox the best. There are a few PS2 games I do enjoy (FFX and MGS2) but MGS2 is on the xbox as well. my $.02

The new Star Wars game on Xbox is supposed to be amazing. I'm picking up a copy this weekend.

If you want good games for like multiplayer and the like, either go with Smash Bros melee for gamecube, or Halo/Brute Force for XBOX. But if you want an alrounder console, it would be PS2 or gamecube.

I love seeing people state that PS2 has only 'decent' games because it isn't the king on the hardware side. If you rate games based on graphics alone then you are ignoring a large part of the product.

It goes like this:
Most amazing games / game library + PSX backwards compatability: PS2
Several very unique, great games (Unique as in, non-sequels / etc) + multiplatform titles + great online service: XBOX
Nintendo insta-hits + great multiplatform titles: GC

Anyone who loves Squaresoft games would be stupid not to get PS2
Anyone who loves competing against others & graphics would be stupid not to get XBOX
Anyone who loves their standard Nintendo lineup would be stupid not to get GC

The fact is, to get the best you would have to have all 3 systems. Which one you pick depends on which gaming titles you are willing to sacrafice and which ones you arn't. Most true gamers consider getting a GC regardless of their choice, since the GC was a pretty cheap system and the titles are irreplaceable (metroid / zelda / etc). I only have a PS2 as of now, since I lack the time to finish half the titles that I've bought.. I cannot justify getting another one yet. Very tempted to get a GC though and keep hoping more XBOX titles make it to the PC to save me the cash.

Xbox and a mod chip so you can use XBMP. ps2 has lots of games, but not the potential to be a media center like the xbox.

the gamecube is definitely a girl magnet... it's scary...

gamecube + super monkey ball 1 or 2 = successful gender-friendly video game party.

mostly a moot point until you determine what kind of gamer you are.

funny, no one's mentioned GBA yet...

Do you think GTA will ever get made for the XBox?

July 15, 2003 - Sources report that Rockstar's mega-money maker Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be coming to the Xbox, possibly as soon as this holiday season.
As many insiders know, the Grand Theft Auto series is supposed to be PlayStation 2 console exclusive, however sources reveal that Rockstar is circumventing the agreement by stripping the Xbox version of the title Grand Theft Auto, and simply repackaging the game as Vice City.

Back in May, Take Two's CEO Jeffrey Lapin spoke about a major Rockstar title in development for the Xbox during the company's quarterly conference call with analysts. "We said that there will be an Xbox SKU from Rockstar in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2004 [Nov. to Jan.]," Lapin said, "but we're not going to comment on what it is at this point." It now looks like Vice City is that game.

Vice City's gameplay will be identical to the PC version that recently shipped, and might also include additional features like custom soundtracks and downloadable content.

Linky

Max Payne 2 is a game with the Rockstar name on it and with Take 2, and will probably be out on XBox in Fall or later (PC release is meant to be Fall).
Sony might also get a bit annoyed if Rockstar did do a workaround, would Rockstar risk that?

I don't understand how in the hell people can say xbox is better. If you go on IGN and search for review 9.0 and up for Xbox, only like 5 or so exclusive games show up. A similar search for PS2 shows about 25-30 exclusive games. So if those 5 games look better than the 25-30 PS2 games, then go xbox. The only ones that I think are that sweet, is Halo and the new Star Wars.

Different strokes for different folks. The top games on the PS2 are almost all a different category or style of game than the top games on the XBox. I hate the PS2. My cousin has one and I hate playing it, I think it blows goat @$$. There's also people who think that the XBox blows goat ass. It just depends on the person and the type of games you like playing.

I won't be buying any system for like another month or 2 (when I get into my new place and get it all set up). So I am leaning toward xBox but I have a lot of exposure to PS2. I have played game cube a bit as well. This is a really tough choice. I am reading everything you guys are saying and it all makes sense and is valid. Right now I have GTA for my PC and it's great. I use the PS2 controller to USB adataper to use the PS2 controller with the game.

Making this decision stinks.

Yes, it is tough, because there isn't one console which is clearly superior in all areas.
I've read posts from a number of people who own all three consoles, and in those posts I've seen each of the three singled out as the "best".

At least you know once you decide that you will be getting a console that has fun games, because they all do. :)
