What color belt/shoes do I wear with light gray pants?

I have these great looking light gray pinstripe pants I just got for $24 on sale at express and I am trying to figure out which belt/shoes to wear. I tried black first because I have heard the general rule is black but it looked a little weird.

I know black is best with charcoal or dark gray but what about light gray, almost silver-colored?

I did google and all the topics I saw were about charcoal.

HELP!

Brown.

Honestly, black is ok too. Black is actually a little "safer", but if you're looking to go a little more with what's current, go with brown. A lighter brown if possible.

I say black, myself. But I haven't been online in forever so I may be behind the times. ;)

Brown with brown or khaki.

Black with all shades of gray, black, or blue.

my rule of thumb is for my shoes to always be darker than my pants, unless I'm wearing fun shoes like powder blue or something.

for gray pants, I'd go with black

In the words of Wesley Snipes, "Always bet on black".

Just make sure your belt and shoes & socks match. That's what's most important. For gray, you should go ahead with black unless you have enough brown in your shirt or tie to make it look somewhat coordinated. It's much safer to stick with black and that's what I always wear with my gray slacks.

I'd agree with black.....just don't know how brown would mesh with gray at all. If you've got the shirt, belt, and shoes for it, navy might work, too....lighter blue shirt, navy belt and shoes. But that's about the only other color I'd think would even come close to working with gray (since we're not speaking about jeans!)

With light grey, black to be safe, but brown also works. I see both every day at the office, and people dress pretty seriously there.

New trends call for Brown shoes and belts to go with grey pants and suits. It is a nice contrast.

Everyone, stop giving him wrong advice. I know fashion trends and I know that green shoes and belt would be perfect with a pair of light grey pants.

The "trend" doesn't make it right.

I would personally not wear brown with grey.

I would choose black as the safest bet... that or another shade of grey.

Black is preferred, but brown works also. I consider brown to be the more laid back and conservative look with grey. As you can tell by the replies in this thread, it doesn't matter what you wear, someone is going to think it looks retarded.

It depends on the brown. It's more than just a recent trend for people to wear cordovan or the burgundyish brown colors (Allen Edmonds Chili color comes to mind, since I got my dad a pair of shoes in that color last Christmas) with gray or charcoal.
