I'm going for a big one this year, I'm gonna quit drinking. Been thinking about it for the last 6-8 months. Drinking beer has simply ingrained itself in my daily habit, typically drinking 4-7 beers each day. Cutting out all 36 or so beers a week should save me roughly 280,000 calories a year and about $2000. A few of my family members have had alcohol problems in the past. My dad whom I haven't spoken to in probably 8 years drinks beer in excess to the point he got in an altercation with his live in girlfriend and got arrested, time for me to wise up.

I'm also looking to lose a few pounds picked up during the holiday season. Financially I feel I'm doing pretty good, no CC dept, retirement contribution is at a decent level although I won't be retiring at 50 or anything. Also plan on doing a 7 day cruise with the family.

Lose 10 more pounds. Already on track for this one. Started about two months ago at 185 and now I'm 172.

Pay off my car.

Run the NY Marathon (if I get in... signed up for the lottery). Never ran a Marathon before. Longest race I've done is a 10 miler last year.

Be more organised with doing the paperwork for my business so I'm more willing to devote time to more interesting projects
Get up to my target weight (easier said than done with health probs)
Stay out of the doctor's office (in terms of taking care of myself, not out of some doctor-avoidance-trust thing)

The first item on my list ought to be an absolute doddle, it's just a case of getting myself to stay on top of it and be disciplined about it.

I want to find a job with another company which doesn't suck as much.

Completely worth the hassle, in case you need encouragement to job-hop. It's demoralizing working for company after company that you don't like and it's easy to lose faith that good companies to work for exist. I've been at my current place for going on 5 years now and it's super awesome. I actually look forward to going to work, I enjoy what I do, and I have a great boss. It's a lot of work and a lot of hours, but the pay is decent and it's a fulfilling career for me. I feel very fortunate to have found a place that I really like. Good luck man!

-Renovate my kitchen

On a tangent, I can't believe how much kitchen renovations cost. One of my buddies spent $50k on his, with a lot of work on his own, and it did not look like $50k. It looked like $15k. I was expecting a brand-new Mini Cooper with a glass sheet glued on top for the kitchen island at that price. And that's been what the case in pretty much all of the kitchen renovations I've seen...I just can't believe how much they cost, and the results are not in line with what I see people pay!

Isn't it amazing once you do the numbers? You can lease a car for what you save every year. Same with smoking or eating fast-food, it's amazing how much we spend on stuff!

I definitely have to lose some weight. I've put on 15 lbs since my wife got pregnant.

20 for me. She'd have a craving for something like burgers, so I'd grab a burger for me & her, then she'd take a bite and the hormones would say "no way"...and of course I couldn't let the second burger go to waste

I wish you the best of luck man. PM me if you want to talk someone who's had some experience.

As for me, I don't really do New Years resolutions but I want to:

- Gain some more weight; get to the gym more than I do now
- Setup my reloading kit and get into the hobby
- Start on the path to getting a private pilot's license

Thanks, I appreciate the good wishes. The problem is that my field is saturated, and was told by someone doing hiring for a company I didn't apply to was that the policy was to get new grads and burn them out over a couple years and get new cannon fodder. Wasn't encouraging.

Regarding kitchens, they're the most expensive remods of all. If I ever do it I think I'll look at some used equipment places. I saw some Bluestar ranges that were in excellent shape and far less than new and much inferior competitors. I might even look into how I might change my kitchen to use commercial units and meet insurance standards. Not sure how hard that would be though. Cabinets? I'd build my own. I have everything I need for that.

Yup and unfortunately, that's more of the rule than the exception. Managers & companies play games like this to keep costs down & meet ridiculous budgetary goals. Internal support & customer support suffer from this constant turnover though. That's why half the time when you go to McDonalds, you get a sloppily put-together burger. Hire people for cheap who don't care and then don't train them, easy formula! lol

I want to be able to do 3 free standing hand stand push-ups at the end of 2014. I tried just doing a handstand (feet propped against a wall) and the blood rushing to my head made me dizzy.

I also want to sleep at least 7 hours a night on work days.
