It's not that they're "in vogue" right now--I don't care about that--it's that they're completely practical. My first cell phone (Sprint Touchpoint TP-120 by Denso) had a little flip cover for the keypad, so keylock is something that I've never trained myself to use. I always was "pocket dialing" people in my speed dial when I had my non-flip phones, and if I did set the auto keylock, I would always grab my phone, enter 7 or 10 digits, only to look at the phone and see that it was locked.

Personally, I'll probably never buy another phone that's not a clamshell/flip. The newest models are less than 1 inch thick when closed, so they're hardly any more bulky than a good non-flip. Easily pocketable (most come with a belt holster too--THAT does make you look like a yuppy, unless your belt happens to be a tool belt, and you happen to be on a construction site), and no more accidental dialing or keylock to deal with.

I agree.
That?s what I love about the clamshell: now I don?t reach for my phone and realize I just made a forty five minute random call because the buttons were pressed in.

flip/clamshell phones are the way to go. nokia should follow suit

I'm amazed at how shallow people get when it comes to cell phones.

I wonder what people did before cell phone?

I have a Motorola v60i. It allows me to make phone calls. :shocked:

They're bulky. They're ugly (IMO). Easier to break and are generally not as well made as candybar phones (every one I've owned developed creaky hinges). Big extendable antennas.

The only ones that might change my mind are the upcoming Motorola MpX and RAZR V3 phones.

You have no clue what you're talking about.
Some of the best phoens are flip phones.
There are a lot of phones out that have intennas... i.e E715
The ones that you owned that developed creaky hinges, doesn't mean all of them do.
And how are they easier to break ? Candy bar phones are more prone to cracking the screen more than the flip.

My E715 has been dropped numerous times, still good as new. No external antenna either. This was my first flip, and I am pleased with it. I had almost the same view before I got this one.
