there is nothing you can do. if she has a serious problem, nothing, not even the best of entertainment or distraction can help. The problem must be solved. It is up to you to decide if you should help her solve it.

It's not my place to fix that issue. I can, however, try making her smile -which I've always been able to do until now.

What do you want to hear? Flowers, a teddy bear, a gift basket?

I ran out of ideas. If I knew what I wanted to hear, I would have tried those options before asking for more ideas. Who cares. You obviously aren't interested in helping.

Get her one of those 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' books. The Hitachi Magic Wand would not be an appropriate gift unless it's for your SO :) Then, she will love you forever

Make a personalized mix of songs on a CD. Get her involved in some charity work - from the little you've said it sounds like she just needs to start believing in herself again. When you feel really bad about your own life, often the best remedy is to try to make life better for someone else.

Gatorade. That would make me happy right now. But then, that just keeps me from being dehydrated. I have mono, and am sad.

Serious answer? WTF? If she's seriously suicidal then stop futzing with this forum, call the authorities, and get her some counceling/medication. If, as most of us suspect I'm sure, she's just a little down or attention-starved then pretty much anything will do.

Send her a cake/brownie mix with frosting/sprinkles/etc. and a tin foil pan (so she basically has everything she'd need to make it), stupid/silly party hats/masks/etc, other stupid/silly party junk, and a disposable camera with the instructions to have a little party (with friends - include some silly little invitations) and she has to send you the photographic evidence.
