I was lurking the hardware forums last august for information on motherboards and I stumbled on OT. Just lurked for a while, thought it was funny and registered in October.

Had big plans to upgrade my Dell PIII-550e box. *snicker-snicker* Shortly thereafter, I found out what the terms "proprietary motherboard" and "no AGP slot" meant.

I decided to learn to build my own PC; after all, if the twerps in the Network shop could do it, so could I. I did a AltaVista search for "PC Hardware." It linked me to the Anandtech main page. I clicked on forums, joined, posted my first post in GH. Something like "Please help newbie build first computer." Ahahahah! What a dweeb!!!!!

Noriaki was the first person to reply to my very first thread. :) He helped me out a lot those first painful weeks.

I stayed in GH/Overclocking for the first 6 months or so. I thought OT was a waste of time. Then about a year ago, I discovered that OT equalled free psychiatric counseling and was really fun too boot. Here I am. Full blown ATOT addict. :D

I was a regular AnandTech reader since December of 1999 or so. I didn't check out the forums until October of the year after. I registered to ask a few questions on upgrading my system to a Duron and somehow got me into ATOT eventually.

Someone, mentioned it on a the comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware newsgroup, sometime in '97, didn't goto the forums until like 98, but I didn't like my nickname so I switched to this one.

Well a couple of years ago, I was at this Internet cafe late one night when I suddenly felt woozy. I looked down at my cup of half-caf, decaf, mocha-chino, double-bleeno, red-eye-wonder-dog, triple expresso and saw some greensih liguid at the bottom.

"Egads, I've been poisoned," I said to myself as I fell face first onto the keyboard.

When I woke up, I found myself chained to this desk, hancuffed to a computer terminal with a Japanese-Swahili keyboard that does not have the letter 'x'. I was logged in to ATOT and I find that I cannot log out. (In the reflection of the monitor, I also saw that face had been horribly disfigured in a grid pattern from the headlong plunge into the keyboard.)

Every time I try to start a new topic thread with the words, "help", " for the love of God", and "I've been kidnapped," the mods always lock the thread and it (the thread) disappears in a matter of seconds following the lock.

I miss my mommy and I want to go home.

I first came to the site itself amost two years ago when I was looking for information on hardware for the machine I was getting ready to build for school in the fall. Got the link from a friend.

Came to the forums only this year, about January or so. A friend that lived down the hall from me this year got all kinds of good stuff from the Hot Deals forum and he told me about the forums here. I just happened to check out Off Topic one day.

I linked to HD from Bensbargains, started checking out the forums, found OT and stayed.

I used to post at IGN a lot and people had some links to Anandtech. So I randomly happened to click on the "Community" button and saw some cool posts. Then I registered for the forums, and now I almost have 1000 posts.

A link on the comp.sys.ibm newsgroup posted in April of 1997.

Anand and his Cyrix PR150+, AOL, and Geocities! Those were the days!

Have a look at this!

Real funny stuff over at archive.org.

Tom blocked his site, however the orginal (sysdoc.pair.com) site is archived! I guess only the oldtimers will remember that.

Cheers!

Someone I worked with a few years ago gave me the link to the front page when I was just starting to learn about computer hardware. Eventually, I just wandered into the forums and never left.

A friend turned me onto Anand's site for 'puter info. I checked out the forums, and I was interested. It got really interesting about the time folks were o/c-ing their K6's, and it got seriously entertaining when the Cele 300A routinely worked @ 450 MHz, if you knew what you were doing. Folks here did. :D
