What book(s) are you reading right now?

I started The Self Esteem Trap years ago and never finished it. Gotta find it again.

I can say the same for The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey. The author built his career by evaluating success/self-help literature to the point he was quite the expert.

I just got done with "Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup ". It's the inside story of Theranos and the scam Elizabeth Holmes pulled with her fake blood testing machine. Really interesting story, that chick needs to get sent to Gitmo and waterboarded every day for a few years as punishment. She got off way too light.

I'm reading George R.R. Martin's new Fire and Blood (Targaryen history). I had forgotten I pre-ordered it so it was kind of a nice surprise when I got an email saying it was available on Kindle. WOOT. But now George... wtf dawg, why were you workin on this instead of the final ASOIF books?

Audiobook, I'm listening to Stalin Volume 1: Paradoxes of Power 1878 - 1928. Pretty good so far. Seems like a lot of stuff is included that really isn't about Stalin but I suppose it's background context.

Still reading the Orbs series (book 1 anyway) on Kindle, by Nicolas Sansbury Smith. Pretty good post-apoc fiction.

That is definitely not one of the habits of highly effective people, but of course you would not know that because you haven't read the book yet.

Its the 8th Novel of the series. Just DLed the Audio book from my county library and looking forward to a pleasant commute for the next week or so.

I don't think I've ever been in the middle of more books in my life than right now. Recently finished Rendezvous with Rama and have A Fire Upon the Deep coming up next. Listening to End of Eternity during my commute. Also reading through Doctrines of Grace for a church fellowship group while simultaneously reading Mere Calvinism to understand it better.

We're Doomed. Now What?: Essays on War and Climate Change

Caught my eye on the way out of the library. A grab bag of Roy Scranton essays. They say his Learning to Die in the Anthropocene is better than We're Doomed, I've got that checked out as well.

Theme is that we're already beyond the tipping point, there's no saving us from environmental catastrophe. I'm inclined to agree. It's a wake up call. Not to delude ourselves that we can solve the problem. So many players are deluded, and in many ways. He asserts it point blank and you take it like from a firing squad. The question is really where do we go from here? If we don't accept the gravity of the situation we're setting us up for a world of insanity, chaos, bedevilment, perhaps an unimaginable descent into dissolution.

I haven't finished the 7 habits either, but it's right at my side and a self-professed priority read. Well, prioritization is, I believe, the first habit. Yup.

A Fire Upon the Deep is amazing, as is A Deepness in the Sky. Great books.

Regarding Rama, quit while you're ahead. I loved Rendezvous with Rama. There was a great sense of discovery and excitement as the story unfolds. The sequels are forgettable, and quite frankly unworthy of the original.

"Bad Blood" is good; I listened to the audiobook version of it, and started watching the HBO documentary but need to finish it.
I just started Gen. Stanley McChrystal's autobiography, "My Share of the Task." I've had it for years and am just getting to it now, ugh but it's hardcover; Kindle is soooo much easier to read laying in bed.

Audiobook in car I'm listening to mah boy Max Hasting's "Vietnam: An Epic Tragedy."

And on Kindle, I'm re-reading Andy Weir's "Artemis." Just an excellent book; God I hope to shit they don't dick up the movie. They need to get Ridley Scott to do it, The Martian was very good.

I'm about halfway through the third Bobiverse book. The trilogy feels like one larger book that was split up, but I've really enjoyed it. No idea what I'll get to next. The Expanse has been on my radar for years, so maybe that?

The second in the series is a decent tale. The rest are forgettable.

It is worth reading. Don't worry too much about order, as each book is mostly stand alone. I would start with 'Player of Games' as it is a good introduction to the universe with a interesting story.
