Know any good books or websites for basically anything on the East African or Southwest Asian theatres of World War 2 possibly?
Naw, unfortunately I don't. I had to re-read what you wrote as at first I thought you said Southeast Asian, as I'm reading Retribution right now, about the last year of the war with Japan. ;)

I'd be interested myself if you end up finding anything. I'll try and keep it in mind too if I come across something.

I just finished The Martian. Can't wait for the movie, although I can't even imagine how the science will translate to the big screen. My theory is that it will be minimized, and the screenwriters will create personal drama that wasn't in the book.

Just about to start this. Reserved a physical copy from the local library, but I won't get it until the end of Sept. :\

Blindness, by Jose Saramago

Im about 1/2 way through, its very good.
Read this last week based on your recommendation. I almost ditched it a few pages in but hung in there. I don't really know when it hooked me but it did.

My reading speed is very average but I finished this ~440 page hardcover in 24 hours! A real page turner. This is his first novel. It's far from perfect but it's pretty good. His acknowledgments make it plain that several people helped him a lot with his rewrites.
Started this yesterday and I'm three quarters of the way through it. It's one of those books I have to keep putting down to make it last. There are some I sort of hate to finish although I see it's the first of three so there may be some more enjoyment to look forward to.

I've finally started the epic saga that is Malazan Book of the Fallen. I'm in the middle of Gardens of the Moon, which is a re-read for me, but after that it's all new. I will be following this reading order.

Still reading, I'm now in Memories of Ice and really enjoying it. I thought Deadhouse Gates was a bit slow though - in some ways it reminded me of A Feast for Crows (Game of Thrones). The novellas between DG and MoI were fun, though their over-the-top comedic tone clashes a little bit with the main series. I definitely think they add to the MoI experience, since you have a lot more background on some characters than you otherwise would have. So +1 for the ultimate reading order.

Restarted reading the Dark Tower series. part 6 and 7 felt flat to me when I read them many years ago. Going to give the series another go.

The Complete Soda-Making Book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1440567484

Basically old-school recipes using new-school technology. I got a gift card awhile back to some department store & blew it on a SodaStream, but ending up giving that away because I didn't really like any of the flavors. I later got an iSi cream whipper (which is awesome btw) & discovered that it takes CO2 cartridges in addition to the NOS catridges. I started thinking about homemade sodas, since back in the day the soda shops all had to make their own flavors, so it stood to reason I could do some DIY flavors that taste better & dump the corn syrup junk they throw in every flavor now. I got to reading about soda jerks online & ended up ordering some CO2 cartridges & the soda book. Going to give a couple flavors a try this weekend!

That's because they are flat. Why would you reread that instead of reading something good?? That series started well but turned into a big disappointment.

This is a better alternative to sodastream to make seltzer at home. It's more economical in the long term and allows you to adjust the pressure which you can't do with sodastream. There is a higher up front cost though.

I've tried twice to get into The Dark Tower series and just can't do it. Made it to book 4 the last time.

Just finished Fool's Quest by Robin Hobb book 15 in her Realm of the Elderlings series. Not the best in the series but I still enjoyed it.

Because I really liked 1-5 and I also have nothing else to read. Any suggestions?

I've been reading Codex Alera, Jim Butchers attempt at high fantasy set in a roman legion like setting. The books are okay, good enough that I'm about halfway through book 5 Princeps' Fury, but not as good as his Dresden Files. I expect I'll finish the series (since I bought them all).

If you have a homebrew kegging setup this is pretty easy to set up alongside it using most of the same equipment.

Not a drinker, but I do like soda from time to time. I originally got the SodaStream with a gift card, so it was basically a freebie, but I didn't use it much & it took up a lot of counterspace in my tiny kitchen. Only a couple of the syrup flavors were good too...they really should have teamed up with Coke & Pepsi so you could buy Sierra Mist, Sprite, etc. flavors instead of mediocre knockoffs.

My CO2 catridges for my iSi actually just arrived, so I'll have to try out a flavor tonight. Some of the mixes are actually pretty intriguing...like the root beer is made of vanilla bean, licorice root, ginger, cloves, anise, allspice, cinnamon stick, brown sugar, molasses, and optionally a pinch of wintergreen extract. I don't have half that stuff so it will be fun trying to find it all
