Just finished the three (currently) books of the Walking in the Rain series by William Allen (more or less your standard SHTF scenario series). I really enjoyed them and wish there were more books. Guess I gotta wait.

Decided to start book 2 of the Going Home series by A. American. I read the first book and while I thought it was ok, that was all. I thought there was too much unnecessary detail included in the book. But I was jonesin for another one of these SHTF novels to read, lol.

I'm also reading Armageddon: The Battle for Germany, 1944-1945 by Max Hastings. I've already read his book "Inferno: The World at War, 1939-1945" and was impressed by it. So far this one is similarly impressive.

I'm in the middle of "The Martian" and it is fantastic. Even if you don't like science fiction, you may like this. No aliens, FTL, etc. just straight up real science. Think "Apollo 13" with a Mars mission and you'll be on the right track.

PS: I have no idea how the movie will be. This book was in my queue long before I even knew there was going to be a moive.

I finished Ready Player One this last Monday (which I loved) and started The Martian right after and I'm already over 60% through. It's an amazing book and I have high hopes for the movie.

Just finished, like 20 minutes ago, Peter Cline's 14 on audiobook. Great book, would recommend to anyone that likes fiction of pretty much any kind.

Looks like I never posted about my favorite book of the year, so far.
So, here it is: The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break by Steven Sherrill.
This book affected me in a way that few books ever have. It has my very highest recommendation.

So this Wool series, do I start by reading the Wool Omnibus first then Dust after that?

Ok, thanks guys. Saw the Wool Omnibus ebook for 5 bucks and was about to grab it, but could not figure out what that covered.

Cheers.

I had never heard of that series but after looking into it I think I've found what I'll read after The Martian.

Since you like "The Martian" I think you'll really like Wool too. And if you like Wool, then give the Sand Omnibus a try too (also by Hugh Howey). I think I liked Sand a little more than Wool actually.

Since there's been some Wool talk, heads up that Wool/Shift/Dust are all on sale for $3 each on the Kindle store right now. So you can get the entire series for $9. Hugh is trying to spur sales to get a movie made.

It might be time I finally check this series out. Thanks for the heads up.

Same here, i'm hooked. Read half the book yesterday.

It's great isn't it? I've read 75% of it since Monday evening and I love it. I'm kind of surprised I hadn't heard anything about it before this past week seeing how it's been out a couple of years now. Mark Watney is one of the more entertaining characters I've encountered recently. I hope Matt Damon can pull it off.

I'm still a little bitter about how he acted in Interstellar, that turd.

I'm currently on a self improvement kick.

1) Jim Rohn's 8 Best Success Lessons.

Jim was the master motivator. A true inspiration. The book is fairly short, but the life lessons that are taught in this book are pretty good.

I especially like the 5th lesson. It's something that I think about daily.

"We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline and the pain of regret. discipline weighs ounces, while regret weighs tons."

2) Tony Robbins "Awaken the Giant Within."

A classic that was first published in 1991. I'm enjoying it so far. I'm trying to keep an open mind, and I'm putting what I've learned from this book into my daily life. Do I agree with everything he says? No. But, I am finding value in a few things he describes in his book which to me is a good thing.

3) Victor Frankl "Mans Search for Meaning."

I have this on Audible. This book was written by Victor Frankl. A Jewish man who was imprisoned in the concentration camps during WW2 for over 4 years. The first part of the book is his account of the terrors he witnessed in the concentration camp. The second part of the book is about his theory on logotherapy. An excellent book that everyone should read at least once in their lifetime. It will make you question what's important, and you'll find yourself being grateful for your life. It's hard to complain about anything after reading this amazing book.

On My List to Read Next:

*The 4 Hour Workweek- Tim Ferris
*The Richest Man in Babylon- George Clason
*The Power of Habit- Charles Duhigg
*Nothing to Envy- Barbara Demick
*Blink- Malcolm Gladwell
*Conquistador- Buddy Levy

Just finished reading the entire Mistborn series, up to Alloy of Law, by Brandon Sanderson. I really enjoyed the first book, Mistborn, and the most recent book, Alloy of Law, as both are very original. The books in between were less so. I'll continue to read the series as new ones come out.

At lunch today I started reading A. Lee Martinez's Emperor Mollusk Versus the Sinister Brain.

I haven't read Mistborn yet, but I just started The Way of Kings, the first book in The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson, and it's a great book. I'm almost finished, excited to read the second book then start Mistborn. If you haven't read The Way of Kings yet, I definitely recommend it.....
