I'm building a second PC, I know what I want in it but there are so many kinds of mtherboards out there and I'm just lost. Here's what I want my mobo to be compatible with:

P4 2.0a gig
PC2700 DDR
4x AGP
ATA133
Stable
ATX
USB 2.0

This is all I can think of right now, Thanks

Hmm...

Discrete chips or chipsets which support PC2700: VIA P4X333, SiS645, SiS645DX, SiS650
Chipsets which support USB 2.0 natively: Intel i845G, VIA P4X333

The i845G unofficially supports PC2700, judging by the wild goings-on over in the CPU/Processors and Overclocking forum :D so you might want to go check out some of the threads over there. Asus P4B533 is getting a lot of attention at the moment.

I went searching for the VIA P4PB Pro on the market but I can't find it anywhere yet. If it were available it might be worth a look too.

Keep in mind that USB 2.0 is easy to add with a $25 PCI card.

thanks a lot for the info. That VIA P4PB Pro is looking realy promising. Is it new? is that the reason for no one selling it yet?

Partly because it's really new, yeah. VIA is being sued by Intel for selling chipsets that support Pentium4 CPUs, so many motherboard makers have steered clear of the VIA P4X266 and P4X266A chipsets which preceded this new P4X333 chipset, because they didn't want to get on Intel's bad side. As a result, VIA markets other brands of boards under their own "anonymous" VSPD brand. The board in the photo might be made by Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or others. There are some motherboard makers who boldly market their own boards with these chipsets irregardless of what Intel thinks of it, and we should see some P4X333-based ones coming onto the market soon.

As I understand it, VIA claims that when they bought... let's see, must have been Cyrix... that they bought Cyrix's rights to use the Intel bus also. I probably got that wrong, but it's something disputable like that.

S3 Graphics actually.

I would out of all those chipsets, go with anb 845G board. It's difficult to take a VIA chipset over an Intel. But, rest assured, the P4PB Pro will definately be a decent board, and if the price is right, I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend it, but for now, I'd say go with an 845G board. My top 3 are Abit's BG7, MSi's 845G MAX-L and EPoX's 4G4A+.
