There was always one dork in the neighborhood who tried to ride on the trails and jumps like we were. He only got in the way. Everybody hated that guy.

No matter what neighborhood or trails you went to, there was the 10 speed guy and he changed from location to location. In fact, this is where the term "that guy" came from. It used to be "that damn 10 speed guy" but was shortened to "that guy".

heh-heh...I used to laugh at the idiots who bent wheels and broke frames trying to jump with their 10-speeds...of course, the other bikes weren't really made for jumping back then either...but could take the abuse a bit better than the light-weight 10 speed frames and wheels.
I got my first 10-speed when I graduated from 8th grade...and promptly got a speeding ticket with it... 50 in a 30. (long steep downhill road)
The cop wasn't impressed. (and neither was my step-dad) :colbert:

Huffy never made a quality bike in the history of their company. What crack were you smoking when you were lead to believe that it was the BMW of BMX?

Hutch, PK Ripper, GT, or Redline frames, Hutch Landing Gear fork, Profile one piece cast aluminum crank, Profile handlebars, Profile neck, Profile chrome molly/stainless chain, Uni seat, Araya rims, Shimano hubs, Shimano breaks, lots of tires and spokes.

Somebody will win intarwebs if they can recall a BMX bike that had legitimate gears. There were 2 gears based only on a front derailer.

Understand that this is where the mountain bike came from. Us 80s teens always thought how cool would it be to have gears, and BMX! How fucking cool would that be! You could like do trails, jumps AND have gears!

Enter the mountain bike.

And what early 80s BMX guy always dreamed of - "Shocks! How cool would that fucking be! A fucking shock! On your bike! And not some lame ass thing like the Schwinn spring on our Sting Rays...a Real Fucking Shock.
