I live about 18 miles from St. Helens.
It's backwater and redneckish, but it's so close to Portland that it's really not a big deal. Definitely woodsy, cheap, etc.
That sounds almost exactly like where I live now, only closer to an ocean and mountains and with a better climate.
heh. It's really not a bad area, especially if you're already used to that kind of thing.
