What are your top 5 gaming moments of recent times?

Hi, i was wondering what are your top 5 gaming moments of recent times? What i mean, is, something that makes a particular part of a game stand out in your memory. You can include console games as well.
Mine are Below

1)The Hong-Kong areas in DeusEx, PC Version
2)The sheer scale and amount of detail in the Battle of Endor level on SW Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader, On GameCube.
3)The amount of freedom in GTA3, PC Version
4)The Ohama Beach Level in MOH:AA, on PC
5)The scale and detail in the levels of Super Mario Sunshine, on Gamecube.

And just for good luck.
6) The whole of, The Legend of Zelda: OOT/MM, on N64

1. first playing mario 64 and finally being "free"
2. playing resident evil on the playstation in HMV for 5 hours before it's release
3. throwing things in black and white
4. buildin my own pc on the cheap and watching it chug away at quake 3 at 30fps

1. Goldeneye multiplayer on N64, all of it.
2. RTCW multiplayer [PC]. ze enemy is weakened! Especially listening to shoutcasts and/or watching big games on wolftv before going off to play myself
3. Operation Flashpoint [PC]: the hugeness, the freedom, the... everything. Most ambitious game I've every played, still one of my alltime best ever despite plenty of bugs and often infuriating ability of enemy to kill you. How many games allow you to just roam a map (and i mean MAP, theyre not levels) and just steal a chopper/tank that occasionally can be found on the ground? One "stealth" type mission i found hard, so i snuck into a chopper pen, nicked one and killed everything in sight before strolling in to finish. Lovely. Completing the map "after montignac"/"strange meeting" (er or somthing) the HARD way (took 4+ hours just for that go lol).
4. Resident Evil 1 on playstation.
5. Radiant Silvergun on Saturn; m8 rightly said it was worth owning the saturn just for that game, turn on and lose a couple of hours, hypnotic. Collectors classic now, i'm not surprised - neither is the m8 who imported several copes, left 'em unopened and flogged for 200% profit on eBay...
6. Much of Zelda Ocrana something on n64, I really liked the way there was so much extra in it, ditto Final Fantasy er, the first really popular one on playstation... When theres so much extra and so much innovation, you know its made out of love of games not just need for profit.

1. Playing Myth: The Fallen Lords for 19 hours straight, and then every single night for over a year.
2. Co-Oping in Halo on the Xbox with a great friend
3. Halo over the internet (best fragging fun ever!)
4. Diablo online multiplayer on my PC.
5. Quake II online multiplay on my PC.
6. Moto Racer on the PC.

(1) Playing the original Quake 1 on the work LAN
That's what got me addicted to computer gaming....

(2) Finding and playing my first MMORPG - Asheron's Call
I played this game for hours every night for over a year. Out of 12 months of my life, I spent a total of a month's time playing this game. Now when people talk of MMORG addiction, I understand completely...

(3)The Half-Life single-player experience in the spring of 99
No description needed... 🙂

(4) Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II single player
Even though its old, this is one of the best FPS games ever, IMHO. While the graphics are dated, it looked good for its time and the gameplay was awesome. Its online DM play is excellent as well. It's the oldest game (1997) that always has a place on my HD...

Co-op playing EA sports College Football series on the PS1 and PS2:
I have never been much of a console fan, but playing with a friend against the computer in Dynasty mode rocks...

Great Topic!

1) My first sniping match in the original Tribes. I was sniping away when I saw a guy way far off staring at me. Little did I know he's already fired his rifle. Less than a second after seeing him... bang... I'm dead. Great stuff.
2) The Half-Life single player experience. To this day, little tops it.
3) Clive Barker's Undying... possibly the most underrated game ever.
4) The Splinter Cell demo... I can't stop playing it in anticipation of the retail version.

However, the best moment of 'recent' times...

5) Battlefield 1942. Fast server. 64 players. Need I say more?

1) Finally Fully compleating FFx. Best 100+ hours ever spent
2) Beating WC3
3) Beating Jak & Daxtar on PS2
4) Metroid Prime!
5) All of MOH:AA on PC. great game

Evil1
I have never played any of the FF series on PC. I am interested in getting started but which version is the best? I see you have FFx listed, but I don't see any reviews for FF10. Are you referring to the FF series in general?

A few other comments:

Operation Flashpoint - Damn...that game was hard! I never finished it, but I know exactly which level you are referring to, Davegod. It's the one where you start in the woods and have to make across the map to the town and jeep, right?

Chad - I think it's safe to assume that you like Halo 🙂

Undying - That is, without a doubt, one of the scariest games I have ever played. I get chills everytime I hear one of those howls. It and System Shock 2 rank up there as the games that make you jump...

1. Massive axe fight tournaments in Soul Calibur for Dreamcast nearly every friday night. That one game is the reason I can't imagine ever getting rid of that console. Best fighter gameplay EVER on any system IMHO.

2. Sneaking and sniping in Deus Ex.

3. Realizing that it is 4am and I haven't eaten for 7 hours because I've been playing CIV3 the whole time.

4. Doing whatever I damn well please in GTA3

5. Introducing my wife to Alice, and finally having some leverage to convince her to upgrade our video card

BlueWeasel.

I am refreing to FFx for the PS2. i dont think any FF games after FF7 or FF8 were ported to the PC. But if you wanna start FF7 is a great place to start. i also recomend getting an old SNES and playing FF3 - Thats US version 3 Jap version 6. or you can Do it with an emulator. ist is one of teh best RPGs EVER and a lot of peopel will tell you that

and any of teh FF games are also great. My personal exception is FF8 i really didnt like that one. There are a lotof other great RPGs out there but most of them exist for console Platforms. BUT if you wanna know more aboutthem feel free to PM me and ask. chances are ive plaied most of them out there. and they are just as good on an emulator

My moments are listed in no particular order

1)Counter-Strike Beta 3 on a 33.6k modem 16MB Video Card, 64MB Ram and a 166Mhz Pentium.

2)Half-Life Single Player

3)Finding out the exsistance of other geeks and things called 'lan parties'

4)Command & Conquer series (expect for RA2 and TS - they utterly sucked0

5)Battlefield 1942, I have flashbacks already...

I'm not a big gaming fan so I'll only state two:

1) Playing multiplayer Descent1/Doom1 and spending an hour just to configure the modem string (these were the 90's!)

2) Playing for the first time the FACE map (CTF) in UT with friends in an MIT laboratory lab 😉

playing Doom 1 and 2 deathmatch at work
First time seeing the guy in the cube next to me in Doom2 with the new "invisible" powerup...looked like something from the movie Predator!

Quake 1 team matches over the internet

Single player Unreal...first encounter with the Skarj guy...lights go out...growl is heard....

MOH:AA - entire single player game

Q3 Rocket Arena team matches using gamevoice to talk to each other

Thousands of hours playing the original Madden on Sega Genesis in college......and beating the smack-talking Kirk Herbstreit (ESPN guy) senseless at it in his own house!

Neo-Geo games, showing the system off in college to anyone who came over!

#1 - Street Fighter 2 in the arcade, the huge crowds and lines to play...for about a week I never lost using Blanka, but then everyone figured out the moves for everyone else.....before there were FAQ's everywhere!

Thanks for the replys everyone. Good Stuff.
I`m going to have to add a 7th gaming moment to my original list. STARFOX ADVENTURES on GameCube.

I just brought it yesterday, and this game rules. Amazing Graphics, Sound, Gameplay, variety and the sidekick thing is a touch of genius. Its a good job rare went out with a very big bang on GC.

Can anyone, who owns this game, answer this.
You know the play ball for tricky?
How do you put it away (back in your inventory) after you`ve finished playing?
And what exactely does it do? Apart from making tricky play fetch?

Thanks again for the replys. Keep em coming.

(in random order)
1. playing Diablo (and its multiplayer); whoa.. i keep playing it until I lost my character because my HDD crashed -_-
2. the differences between all races in StarCraft; so drastic
3. the freedom in GTA3
4. Half-Life single player; welcome to the outdoor world
5. Final Fantasy VII; though my fav of all time is FF6, 7 was a brakthrough in its time

=============
additions:
6. playing TES3: Morrowind; freedom, the longest game I ever played, and finally I played a game in 1024x768 32 bit + pixel shader.. hehe..
7. playing Fallout; i think it is the "true" RPG for PC system, classical style and not in 'sword & sorcery' type.
8. playing Zelda in Nintendo 16-bit; my first love to RPG games

5) MOHAA
4) Alien vs Predators 1 and 2
3) RTCW
2) DOOM I and DOOM II and soon DOOM III
1) Half Life

I had to stop AvsP2 because of the nightmares it was giving me.

>Single player Unreal...first encounter with the Skarj guy...lights go out...growl is heard....
I know that moment all to well.

Once playing Doom 2 I jumped out of my chair and landed on the floor.

I still remember the first words when I played HL for the first time "what a ride"

1. Half-Life -- when you get knocked out and carried away by the guards
-- when you reach the surface for the very first time and all the bombs are dropping around you

2. Quake 2 -- my first experience with first person shooters in OpenGL... graphics AMAZED me
-- the first level, shooting the guys just to watch the death animations

3. SOF2 Demo -- playing the leaked demo on a server in China with 300 ping and still having so much fun 🙂 🙂

1. Legend of zelda for nintendo. My friend got very far, found the all powerfully magic wand. We were both very excited; my left foot acidentally nuged the reset button when I decided to stretch but since he was playing for such a long time, I was able to convince him the system had probably just overheated and rebooted. We never went that far again afterwords. 😀

2. Rogue Spear had froze while playing online. Pushed reset button and screen went blank. Video card died afterwards. :Q

3. Finally learning how to pull off the dragon punch in street fighter 2, took many hours just to beat bison. 😕

4. Playing FF7 for pc was far more enjoyable since I never played the ps version. 😀

5. Betrayal at Krondor didn't seem fun when watching my friend play it until I got to play. Some of the riddles were quite difficult but well worth the effort when rewarded. 😀

1. Play Wolfenstein 3D when it came out, which was the first PC game I saw

2. Play Quake with lights out at 3am while listening included NIN tracks

3. Omaha beach landing in MOHAA

4. Finally trying and enjoying MP in MOHAA and in result becoming WWII nut

5. Playing as chestburster in AVP2

1. Jedi Outcast: encountering my first Reborn and first lightsabre fight. 🙂

2. Morrowind. The pixel shader assisted water and overall visuals were stunning and I'm not usually "wowed" by graphics anymore.

3. Age of Wonders II: After a few maps I thought to myself, "why don't you play more turn-based games, these rule!".

4. Freedom Force: keeping the troupe alive during mega-dinosaur battles. 🙂

5. (nothing...takes a lot of game to give me a Moment).

Hmmm, good topic

1. Doom - When you get to the star chamber (room, whatever you want to call it), and the three (damn, can't remember what they are called) demons are there. I still remember playing this game late at night, and my wife woke up and came and touched me on the shoulder. I hit the roof screaming. Scared the piss out of her too 🙂

2. Doom2 - first time I met the cyberdemon. Holy shite!. Me and a buddy used to connect and play for hours. Either D or D2. We were playing online together on Doom, but Doom2 just made it more fun. (and yes, I remember those damn modem strings).

3. Half Life. Hearing the soldiers on thier radios was a highlight for me. I thought it was awesome. Great single player game. Just the descent on the rail car set the mood for the game. You just KNEW something cool was gonna happen. It did. (Although I think it's sad that Valve has been milking this game for everthing they can. C'mon valve, let it go and bring something new to the plate)

4. Resident Evil. Like scary games? This is a great one. I'm glad they ported this to the GC. 2 & 3 coming next month. Great series, and finally, we'll get most of em on one platform. (Overall, the RE games are in my top two for series of games. Only the Doom's edge it out for #1 to me.)

5. Flanker 2 - My all time favorite flight sim. Too many situations to list, but avoiding sams (good luck) was great. (when you could pull it off).

Duke Nukem 3D It was my first experience with a FPS game. It had a great atmosphere.
Unreal I had to by a 3dfx vid card to get it to play, but when I stepped out into the outdoors area for the first time I was sure glad I bought that vid card. I hadn't had a true 3d proccessor up to that point. I played this game just recently again and I was supprised at how gorgeous the game still looks even by today's standards.
Half Life. Awesome game.
Quake 2 Capture the Flag. I'm a grapple monkey. I love the tricks you can do with that thing.
Deus Ex. Awesome game. Deus Ex is a game that comes to life for me. You walk up to people and they talk to you. At one point in the game you go into this bar and there are people dancing, sitting around tables drinking talking. The sniping was great.
Clive Barkers Undying. It'll make your hair stand on end. Best way to play this game is to set up a table out in the woods behind your house and run an extension cable and wait till midnight before playing.
Operation Flashpoint. realistic squad combat. Stand up and walk accross an open field and you could be dead, as you should be. Move slowly and make use of them binoculars. Huge, I mean Huge levels. Something like 80 square miles. Enough to make a quake3 level look like a kitty litter box.
Metal of Honor- Allied Assault. I really loved the Sniper Town level as well as the Omaha Beach level.
oops. thats 6

Don't know if this counts or not:

A friend and I killed each other simultaneously in quake 3 with railguns. This is nearly impossible even in a high-ping game.

The amazing thing is that we were both on a lan and within 5ms of each other in latency.

Wow. This is a pretty tough topic. I'll try to give it a shot.

1. Tetris - I have never been as addicted to a computer game as I was to Tetris on my old Tandy XT.
2. Finishing Leisure Suit Larry (3 or 4?) with no cheats! 🙂
3. Half Life SP - played the demo for about 3 minutes and then drove as fast as I could to CompUSA to buy the retail version. I've been a diehard FPS player since then.
4. Aliens V Predator - The face huggers never failed to make me jump out of my skin. That game scared the sh!t out of me!
5. Heavy Metal FAKK2 - That game to me was the first stunning graphics I had ever seen in a video game. It started me on my mission to always have the best video card available.
