I just started KOTOR, the first one, and wow, I am amazed at how much ass it kicks, but not too amazed considering this is a console RPG. This game kicks ass. I've been playing it for like 4 hours straight so far and I'm up to...

um, I'm going into the Vulkar base to get that chick that's very important. Right now I'm facing this huge monsterous beast. Hopefully he can die - don't tell me.

But yeah, this game instantly hooked me. Very cool, the people make this game great, all these little tidbits of info.

One of the things that made it better was that I can auto level and have the comp pick recommendations for me so I don't have to sit and think and disrupt the flow. I felt totally immersed.

Apoppin, how far from the end is the part where you're captured and held aboard an imperial ship?

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (amazing - possibly my favorite of all time)
Half-Life 2 (Same as Sands of Time)

^ Those two I had to block out in bold because I think they are a special notch about the others I've listed here. PoP: Sands of Time is one of THE best games ever made in any genre - it looks beautiful, it plays right, it has a good story that ends very well, likeable characters...I can't say enough good things about it.

Half-Life 2 is one of the most cinematic titles I have every played. The amount of moments that will have your jaw on the floor staring at the monitor thinking "I can't believe I'm doing something this cool" are ridiculous. Usually, after finishing a game, one can look back and remember 3 or 4 memorable moments - Half-Life 2 is one huge memorable moment. A classic, to be sure.

On to the rest:

Deus Ex
Neverwinter Nights
Battlefield Vietnam/Battlefield 1942
StarCraft
Unreal/Unreal Tournament Series
SW: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR II is not nearly as good)

the game is 3 times longer than an "average" fps . . . basically an intro, 4+1 planets and 'another mission' then the ending . . . and there are TWO endings . . . Dark Side and Light Side

i think you are in that 'other mission' . . . it depends ,'cause it can show up early or later.

How many planets have you finished?

I THINK the only planet I hadn't visited was the evil rough one. Darth Maul's pad.

How many are there?

Haven't played since it came out.

I'm assuming i quit on leviathan?

Did you say there's a path through the game where you skip certain zones or is it really the same but in different orders?

Korriban, Unknown World, The Star Forge are the only places I didn't visit, iirc

Don't auto level! LEARN the intricacies or you WILL [likely] be sorry.
(it makes it more difficult if you let the computer pick all your skills for you . . . specialize!)
How many levels can you gain. I'm at level 5, I'll try to give my next levels some more thought.

For those of you loving KOTOR, don't bother getting KOTOR 2 - it's a big disappointment.

Obsidian is not BioWare.

Everytime I think about KOTOR, I just feel more and more attached to it. The attention to detail to the characters, the epicness. Such character buildup. I'm just speechless.

I'm at the race right now and just rescued the chick - that was soooooooo easy it's not even funny. But still a great game, that was just the easiest part of it.

Is there any way you can tell use why it is disappointing without spoiling it? Very vague expressions.

Now, I got a problem with KOTOR.

I'm on the Jedi planet or the 2nd planet you visit. And I am getting horrendous framerates at times. Sort of like when I look onto the field where it continues, I get really bad framerates, but if I look away at the wall everything is fine. It seems buggy too, if I try to move at times, I just appear at the other side of the level which is very frustrating. This isn't cool.

I knew it was weird. As soon as I got to the plains, my framerates were horrible. But then it became better, just by looking at the same scenery. If you turn around, the fps would become horrible again, until they pick up.

I used to play at 1280x960, but now I'm at 1024x768 - not a bad res actually. But this is just crazy. It's rendering the game unplayable. I'm gonna try the game again tomorrow.

yep . . . just part of one level . . . . it's annoying as hell . . . . just drop the resolution and the details ands you're thru it quick enough . . . . there are only a couple of other [short] places [almost as bad] you can get thru w/o changing resolutions . . . i guess we have pretty equivalent videocards . . . mines' a 9800xt, yours' is a 6600gt (i guess the amount of vRAM makes no difference).

i am buying a DVD burner today, backing up my sata and setting up a Win98SE partition for System Shock 2 . . . then i'm on to KotOR II :)

Unlike you apoppin, where it took 12 hours to get into it. I was into it from the first hour, well actually, moreso after the first hour. Things were unexpected. You didn't know what would happen to you next. It was after the 12 hours, after the Taris, and then after Dantooine, it started to go down hill, not as exciting as Taris, but still good.

I like that you the planets you explored were huge and had mystery to it. I like the people, who all had a lot of story to them. Taris was like that. The other planets are very small and their missions you can finish in half the time that Taris took. So far, I'm in Tantooine, but almost finished. Put 27 hours into the game IIRC.

And another thing, which brings me to why I am here instead of playing the game that I literally spent entire days playing, (its a great game, I have never been able to play a game the entire day) the freaking bugs are killing me. Bugs here, bugs there, it could crash loading, didn't save - too bad. I could just teleport me to another side of the map in open environments, not including the area mentioned in my previous post. Team AI seems to get worse and sometimes, they forget to follow you and you have to wait. Team sometimes don't use their poweres to their ability. The games have a lot of little things that are really annoying. But the game is fun.
