Descent Freespace and Freespace 2, two of the most underrated space sims ever. Nothing comparable has come out since FS2

The Monkey Island series, the best, wittiest, pirateyest adventure series ever :p

Starfleet Command II & III are very good for Star Trek fans.

Jedi Academy single player is fun for Star Wars fans (this is off-topic but I find online players in SW games are the rudest bunch of uber-nerds imaginable. Ugh!)

But in general, anyone with a computer owes it to themselves to play:
The Half Life series
The Warcraft series
Starcraft
Red Alert/Command & Conquer Series (<<<<<<bargain bin alert)
Thief, System Shock 2 & Doom III if you enjoy being scared. (DoomIII was slandered post-release w/o legitimate cause)
Call Of Duty
Return to Castle Wolftenstein
Max Payne
Freespace Series space sims
Sig Meier's Gettysburg!

A wise man would listen to this.

Anyone who missed out in the 80s golden age of PC games, ie. the Sierra games and Lucasarts REALLY missed out.

I'd suggest any and all Sierra/Lucasarts games.
Anything from Space Quest (I think these are so funny), to Loom (lucasarts), to Maniac Mansion or Day of the Tentacle.

Try Westwood Studio games as well, the Legend of Kyrandia was simply awesome.. I'd suggest all of those as well.

Most ppl these days wont try these games cuz the graphics suck.. but man.. even the original Zork is fun IMO.. and its text based.

I tried No One Lives Forever 2 and the humor is amusing, but the game is just boring to me. Nothing pulled me in.

On the other hand Delta Force: Black Hawk Down got me very intersted in it. Haven't beat the demo yet, but I pulled me in from the beginning.

Half Life was quite good.
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast was fun - playing with the lightsaber was fun, though the enemy AI had a few flaws that made it easy to exploit. The enemy snipers were probably the worst to fight.

Homeworld 2 - a fun game that doesn't require quick reflexes, which I seem to lack (explains my usual average of 1:10 kill:Death ratio whenever I would play CounterStrike. And those were my good days. One a month, I'd manage a 1:2 K:D ratio.) Anyway, it's got nice graphics, decent gameplay, and a good interface. I still liked the original Homeworld best - I'd LOVE to see a port of the old version to the new rendering engine, but that'll never happen.
I still just love seeing the Hiigaran battlecruisers in action.

where did you quit?

if you didn't like NOLF2, i can't imagine you liking the original . . . . i liked em both . . . . they took awhile to get "into" (about the 3rd or 4th level for NOLF and frankly i found it a bit "long") . . .

heck, DE took me forever (for a FPS) to get into - 3 or 4th level - . . . the second one only "took" in the 2nd level (and it's a sequel - you know how to play already.
:Q

the ONLY games that pulled me in right away were HL, Serious Sam, Max Payne and maybe Unreal (sequels don't count) . . . OtOH, KotOR took TWELVE (12!!!) hours for me to get interested (and "worth it", i might add)

Just 'cause you give up easily doesn't mean the game is UNworthy :p

I played the demo and played a bit of the second level in the demo. It wasn't particularly fun to play or challenging, but fighting wasn't fun at all. It was sluggish and unfun. Story wasn't particularly intersting either.

Oooh, I tried the demo for Star Wars: Republic Commando - awsome. Love the gameplay.

In my opinion, if a game doesn't pull you in from the beginning, then they did a bad job. If it's a btch to pick up and play then that contributes to less sales, meaning they did a bad job.

RTCW - got it, beat it, amazing - a classic

MOHAA - got it, beat it, great - a classic

DEIW - didn't like the first one, is this one boring in the beginning

Quake - got it, beat it, amazing - a classic

Quake 3 - don't got it, don't plan on getting it

Undying - got it, beat it, great

SOF2 - got the demo, haven't beat it yet

Far Cry - got it, beat it, great, hard - near classic level

Doom 3 - got it, beat it, amazing - near classic level

Unreal - got it, beat it, amazing - a classic

Red Faction - will dl demo

Star Trek Elite Force 2 - got the demo, haven't beat it yet

Jedi Knight 2 - got it, haven't beat it

Jedi Academy - will dl demo

NOLF - didn't like the sequel

It's funny too, because I always told people to replay the beginning of Silent Hill to see if they could just pass it and then the game pulls you in and becomes one of the classics. However, for me, that part was interesting already and didn't take long to beat.

The second one is better. In particular weapons have a much better feel to them.

NOLF - didn't like the sequel
The sequel sucks donkey balls but the original is absolutely awesome.

Hmmm...Well, if you are looking for some great first person and third person stuff, how about these new and old classics...

System Shock
System Shock 2
Alien versus Predator 2
Ultima Underworld
Deus Ex
Sid Meier's Pirates (currently Playing)
Freedom Force
Gothic 2
Wizardry 8
Knight's of the Old Republic 1 & 2

More on System Shock... Before Doom 3, there was System Shock! The System Shock series is perhaps the most underated series ever in the PC genre. Both part 1 and 2 are two of the best games I have ever played. Both are scary, but "2" still scares me, and I beat it already. What makes it scarier than Doom 3 are the plot twists and the logs build better. Also, the fact that enemies spawn completely randomly makes it completely unpredictable and tense. Even Doom 3 doesn't pull this off.

As far as AVP 2... Another awesome scary game that gets little credit. You have AVP 1 on your list, but not part 2???? A Travesty, LOL!!! Go buy it now... Fanatastic game!!!
