I need ideas of what to make for a potluck dinner in a couple weeks.

I asked the hostess what was needed and she said apps, since everyone else was either doing sides or desserts... I was thinking some kind of savory tartelette maybe, but no clue on what specifically to make. just something that can be eaten while you're standing in a room talking with people.

Spaghetti with tomatoes sauce.

Or toothpicks with an olive, cheese square and melon on it.

Seriously though, I like dips. Crab, artichoke, mexicali, spinach...whatever. And it's easy.

Mini vol-au-vents are awesome and you can really put anything inside them for a delicious appetizer! You should be able to find them pre-made, then just make a filling (could do a creamy-sherry-mushroom mixture with a bit of fresh thyme, or shrimp and cream cheese, or chicken-brie or goat's cheese-red pepper jelly, really the possibilities are endless) spoon in your filling, throw on the top and you have an aweome looking and delicious appetizer.

Chicken wings are always good. Maybe not the best for walking around though. But, easy to make in a crook pot.

what do you generally eat hummus with? just crackers?

I've seen some hummus recipes that looked tasty and easy, but I've never eaten it before.

Pita or crackers or even bread are all good with hummus.

I had fried pickle slices once and they were amazing.
I love fried pickles... but I don't own (or have any interest in buying) a deep fryer.

plus, I'll need to cook whatever I'm bringing at least an hour before going to the party.
