Depends. Lil smokies and sauce are good. Last time I took a TON of wings to a party and they were gone faster than anything else. if you decide to put some work into it you could do canapes or maybe rumake.

what do you generally eat hummus with? just crackers?

I've seen some hummus recipes that looked tasty and easy, but I've never eaten it before.
pita, and usually the thinner arab kind, though the thicker stuff works ok if you split it.

you can easily make several flavors of hummus. make one big batch, set aside a third as plain, mix chopped olives into another third, and roasted garlic into another third. or whatever else you want.

fried pickles are awesome (spears > chips, by far), but not when cold. hummus works great at room temp.

Two things appetizer wise that are my all time favorites:

Fried dill pickles, preferably with cornmeal batter

Roasted garlic hummus with pita.

Shallots, chorizo, fennel bulb, fresh chive and tarragon sauteed, cooled and rolled in a long 'log' of puff pastry brushed with egg wash. Bake till golden brown and slice on an angle for great taste!

calamari is my favourite but it doesnt do well at a pot luck where the food sits out very long, it really needs to be served and eaten right away
