I started this thread b/c I'm sooo curious what other people believe in. Of course, many people believe in God, and it may be the most important belief, but are there any other things you believe in? Or do you believe nothing and noone? I'm really curious.

i'm an agnostic atheist... i believe that there is no way to tell for sure if god exists or not, but if i also believe that there isn't a god, just because that's what i feel.

other than that, i believe in human nature and my instinct :)

something along the lines of this
A conviction that dogmas, ideologies and traditions, whether religious, political or social, must be weighed and tested by each individual and not simply accepted on faith.
Commitment to the use of critical reason, factual evidence, and scientific methods of inquiry, rather than faith and mysticism, in seeking solutions to human problems and answers to important human questions.
A primary concern with fulfillment, growth, and creativity for both the individual and humankind in general.
A constant search for objective truth, with the understanding that new knowledge and experience constantly alter our imperfect perception of it.
A concern for this life and a commitment to making it meaningful through better understanding of ourselves, our history, our intellectual and artistic achievements, and the outlooks of those who differ from us.
A search for viable individual, social and political principles of ethical conduct, judging them on their ability to enhance human well-being and individual responsibility.
A conviction that with reason, an open marketplace of ideas, good will, and tolerance, progress can be made in building a better world for ourselves and our children.

Like gopunk, I consider myself an agnostic athiest. I do not believe that there is a God, but if there is, well then, there is. However, I am not going to organize my life around the possibility that God exists, and I strongly believe that organized religion (of whatever faith) is useless.

I do believe in my own integrity, and I believe that I am basically a good person. My sense of good and evil is not rooted in religious dogma, but rather in an innate awareness of being respectful to others, and being respected in turn.

I feel that there's a subtle humor to the original post that is meant to satirize most seemingly innocent religion threads' beginings...but maybe I'm reading too much into it :)
But that's what I believe.

I am an athiest, I believe people should treat others as they want to be treated. Right now, I believe I'll have another beer.

Sorry, but how 'the possibility that God exists' can organize your life? I also don't believe in organized religion and never go to church, if you ask me. But it doesn't mean that I don't believe in God, does it?

Sorry, I guess I should explain better.. I work with someone who is a "born-again Christian" type, and we had a discussion on the subject. One of the things he asked me was "If it turns out that there is a God, then what will happen to you after you die? Wouldn't you rather make sure that you go to heaven, rather than the bad place?" I have gotten this question from more than one born-again Christian type, come to think of it..

I am basically a good person. If there is a God that will banish me to "hell" just because I refused to kowtow and worship, then to me that God is not worth worshipping. (In fact, the idea of me "worshipping" anything makes me nauseous..)
