What are you waiting for, as far as upgrades?

Im waiting for a legacy free system no printer port, com ports, pci, agp, isa or PATA, atx or 32 bit.

get yourself an itanium2 so that you'll also be free of x86

I'm waiting for 64bit apps to mature a bit, and for the hardware platforms to stabilize and mature. My current Athlon XP 1800+ system continues to chug along just fine for now.

waiting for:

XP-64 (or Longhorn), at which point I'll upgrade to a 64-bit cpu
also waiting for the next gen of Radeon cards... I desperately want to upgrade my 9000, but don't want to put the money down on a 9800 with the next gen coming out "soon".

I'm waiting for a PC with no legacy connections at all including keyboard and mouse, just a wireless connection directly to my brain. 😕

I'm waiting for a video card that will do my laundry for me...
PS 5.0? We got nice stuff, it's getting more programmable, and voxels, what? Five years and I bet video cards will even complain about your socks getting too dirty and you leaving them on the floor all the time! 😀

id like a new video card and a 21" crt

another half gig of ram would be nice, but id prefer video and a monitor before that

My rig's "done" except for the video card . . . waiting for the reviews of the new GPUs from nvidia and ATI - then I will EITHER: 1) buy a Radeon 9800xxx for ~$150 OR 2) buy the 'latest and greatest' for $400.

I think my P4 @ 3.4ghz will have some longevity . . . and NEXT year the FINAL steppings of the Northwoods (I think intel will ultimately put out a 3.60c and maybe a 3.80c) will both be CHEAP and O/C very (very) well (to ~4.0Ghz I hope) for a cheap UPgrade.

I have no inent to upgrade.
The next piece of hardware I buy will be a whole new system.
It will be 64 bit, legacy free, BTX, SATA, PCI-E, DX10 fanless GPU, Dual layer DVD burner
AND it will be at least twice as fast as the one I have now for the same money I paid for this one.

Wow you might be waiting at least 18 months until DX10 GPU thats a long time to live without playing games like HL2 and Doom3 etc.

Nvidia scrapped their original NV40 and moved up one GPU level. Their GPU to be launched within a couple of weeks support PS3.0

I am waiting till my computer won't run games at settings I like to upgrade... that means probably next year when the next wave of video cards hits.
Edit: Also I am kinda waiting for dx10 based cards...

You seem to be brainwashed into thinking you need the greatest to run doom3, hl2. Of course, these games are programmed with low end cards in mind - otherwise they wouldn't have any sales.
If you take a look at anandtech's year old doom 3 benchmarks, you'll see that a FX5200 will play the game perfectly fine
