last big thing i got was my TV 2 years ago or so (took me 5 years!). now im saving for a new rideing lawn mower. i don't need one but i hate the one i have and want a Zero turn one. figure to save $2500-3000 for it. should take me 2-3 years.

another thing im saving for is a nice table saw and band saw. Also saving to build a nice workshop in the back of the property.

Uhhh why can't you just walk it? Imagine all the money you'd save, and imagine how much exercises you'd get by not riding one.

I'm saving to build a 12-18 month nest in case shit happens. Then I'm going to split my spending in the following ways:
(a) entertainment fund (in here goes car, movies, etc. etc. for those that say you can't save for this stuff because its not that expensive...try buying 800 dollar wheels and 600 dollar tires..and its only that cheap because I want relatively small wheels 15x8 or 15x9. I also put my photography items in here which runs 300-1k per item)
(b) savings fund (will be the largest of them all and most money will go here)
(c) house/land fund (probably not put that much in for now, but i want to keep it consistent over time. I'll probably get more serious in 2-3 years once I'm done pimping out my car and get a new dslr + 2-3 Limited lenses that I'm wanting)

I used to be a spender, but since I got a real job, I'm a saver. Money doesn't come easy, and I find that I don't need to buy shit scontantly to keep happy

At the very least, I need about 50% of my income to go into the 'savings fund'....and then I'll filter into the other 2 funds. And saving for what? I dunno...better to save than to spend

usually save extra $ but usually buy shit in the mix as well if it isn't terribly expensive (more than a couple hundred bux).

I don't have a "budget", if i want to go out to eat or buy liquor or whatever it may be, i'll just do it, so guess that's why im a mixture

saving up now for nothing in particular, if anything I'll probably just pay the remainder of my car loan off asap

Man, do I hate you. You are probably the worst lifer on this whole freakin' forum.

Best of the worst is still best at something, I guess. There's some pretty stiff competition.

PS - I can also include a hi-fi video cassette recorder. I promise I'm not just trying to clear out my basement, these are all valuable collector's items!

Oh, in that case, I will delete the call out thread I was making.

I'm a graduate student so the income isn't great, but I'm currently saving up for next summer's living expenses in case I don't get hired to lecture a summer course like I did this summer. As of the end of July, I'm at $1,500 of the $5,500 I'll need. It's going to be difficult to raise another $4,000 before then but I want to remain student loan free. The ultimate goal is to hammer out the dissertation by December 2010 to be on the professor job market in early 2011 with my doctorate already in hand unlike many of my competitors. I've come to the point where my income should effectively quadruple or quintuple soon enough that saving up for other things at this point just seems...entirely too responsible. :D

that house is nice
I didn't see the price, how much?
if that was in southern cali, it would easily be 1 million++

Still waiting on the official bid to come back from the builder. Probably in the ballpark of $350k. It will have a 3rd/4th stall sort of offset from the two stall in the plan with a huge bonus room above that runs the length of the garage.

What general vicinity are you building?

It'll go on a 1.5 acre lot in quiet, rural subdivision about 10 miles outside of Peoria, IL.

A saver, mainly for whatever interests me or may be useful, and it's always good to have a little bit available for minor emergencies. Recent indulgences have included Stargate: SG1, the complete series on DVD, and a dishwasher.
I'll also need a newer car eventually. Mine is showing signs of age - it's a '97 Elantra with nearly 100k miles on it, it's never known the pleasure of being kept in a garage, and for the past few years it's had to endure Erie, PA's absolutely fabulous winters.

A bit of both. I am saving $200/week for an emergency fund, but still buy whatever I want for the most part.

Ill be saving to try and restore my savings account. Probably not gonna happen with the job I'm about to start working at though. :( Otherwise I'd like to buy a gun and might if things turn up for me.
