I know this topic's been done before, but not recently that I know of. Anyway, here's the idea:

1. What are you reading right now? Title of book, author, genre, description if you like (no spoilers please)

2. Like it/dislike it?

3. Anything you're planning on reading next?

I'll start off with this:

1. A Storm of Swords (Book 3 of A Song of Ice and Fire) by George R.R. Martin. Fantasy, but head and shoulders above most fantasy I've read. Intrigue, battles, bloodshed, well-written characters, etc.

2. Second time reading it. Enjoying every page.

3. Got a stack of books from the library to read after Storm of Swords.

Bones - Nonfiction about anthropology and discovering remains of the first Americans

The Longest Night - Military history of the Civil War

The Gangs of New York - Book that the movie is based on

Mostly Harmless. Douglas Adams. Sci-Fi/Satire. Last book in the "HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series.

2. Like it/dislike it?

It's a pretty good book...it's been a while since I've read it, and I believe this is my 3rd time around.

3. Anything you're planning on reading next?

Not especially.

I went through 3,000 pages of unpublished novels last weekend. :)

My own personal reading though, I read Gertrude Atherton's The Californians yesterday. I liked it. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't top the list of world class literature but in early California's literature, it stands out as being better than the crap written up to that point. I doubt many of you would like it much- it's a bit more of a "girl book". It's an interesting read though, if you're reading it to glean something of the changing history of the time. It focuses on post Gold Rush California and the metamorphizing elite class of the day, mixed Americans rich off of their new state and Californios, the Spanish clinging to the wealth that Spanish California had bequeathed to them in earlier times but that the US largely undercut.

Started re-reading Stephen King's The Dark Tower in anticipation of the rest of the series coming out before too long.

Wouldn't mind seeing that come to the big-screen as long as it was adapted well.

I haven't read anything in a couple of weeks... except the short story The Ghost Who Came to Say Sorry by Chuck Palahniuk (same author as Fight Club).

I have Gore Vidal's book Creation all ready though... i'll probably start that real soon.

1. What are you reading right now? Title of book, author, genre, description if you like (no spoilers please)
The Source by James Michener. Basically the entire history (from cave men to current) of one specific area of the Holy Land.

2. Like it/dislike it?
Its alright, jumping around quite a bit for my tastes, but not really all that far into it yet. I like his other stories where the characters through time have some sort of distinct connection to eachother.

3. Anything you're planning on reading next?
No plans as of yet.

Storm, thanks for the link. I couldn't remember what the title of your thread was. Hope you don't mind I borrowed your idea :D. I'm a book junkie myself so I enjoy finding out what other people read to give me ideas for what to check out next.

I haven't read anything by Michener, but I'll have to pick up some of his stuff next time I go to the library. I enjoy historical fiction along those lines. Any of his books you'd recommend in particular?

Huh, the only things I read regularly are specialized magazines and textbooks, I don't have the time or incentive to read anything else after I finished the entire of Hadley Chase a few months (maybe years) back, of course I do not count ATOT as any time of reading - it's just not that.

The Bourne Supremecy by Robert Ludlum - Sequel to The Bourne Identity

2. Like it/dislike it?

I'm really digging it. Ludlum really sucks you in.

3. Anything you're planning on reading next?

The Bourne Ultimatum

And yes I've seen the movie. I hated it. They changed so much of it. It was probably good if you never read the book.

"Culture Jam" by Kalle Lasn.
It's a book all of you should pick up. Being the mindless zombie slaves of corporate america you are.
