1. What are you reading right now? Title of book, author, genre, description if you like (no spoilers please)
Naked Prey by John Sanford. Its the latest in the Prey series that features a cop named Lucas Davenport. Coincidentally, the man is a gamer and writes sims.

2. Like it/dislike it?
I plan to begin later this evening when I go to work (I work nights) so I don't have an opinion on it. My wife read it first and she said that it was really good. I wouldn't let her tell me anything else.

3. Anything you're planning on reading next?
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Jarka Ruus (1st book in the new Shannara series called High Druid of Shannara) - its due in Sept

The Prince=Machiavelli?

Is Nietzsche understandable at all? I've heard a little bit about him, including how Hitler warped his philosophy to suit his vision, but have never read anything Nietzsche wrote,

Yes, Machiavelli's The Prince

I have yet to read any of Neitzsche's works so I cannot say... but I look forward to reading his stuff.

What's funny is that I did not know of Neitzsche until playing Enter the Matrix when Ghost quotes him a few times... go figure

He who fights with monsters should take care that he does not become a monster. If you look into the abyss, the abyss looks into you.

There was another quote that Ghost used, which I'm sure was from Nietzsche, when he was talking to the Oracle, something to do with love. I have yet to find it though.

The Gospel of John. I know you said no spoilers, but here is one little one.... The guy dies in the end, but He comes back, so it is cool.

1. How Right You Are, Jeeves by P. G. Wodehouse. Genre? No clue, funny book, I am reading it for the second time.

2. Long Days Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill. Genre? No clue, I think it belongs in the boring genre. I won't read it again.

Silverthorn by Raymond E. Feist. It's part of the Rift War novels, I'm sure many of you have heard of them. It's at least as good as the first few books in the series, definitely worth reading.

Silverthorn is my favorite out of the Riftwar Saga. The Empire trilogy is excellent as well (the books he co-wrote with Janny Wurts). IMHO, Feist's stuff went downhill after he finished Serpentwar Saga. How many freakin' evil magicians or demon kings can there be in Midkemia?

LOL are you really reading those, or are you just listing them to show how well-read you are? For somebody who has just discovered Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, that's quite a list. What other philosophical books have you read?

The Source by James Michener. Basically the entire history (from cave men to current) of one specific area of the Holy Land.

2. Like it/dislike it?
Its alright, jumping around quite a bit for my tastes, but not really all that far into it yet. I like his other stories where the characters through time have some sort of distinct connection to eachother.

3. Anything you're planning on reading next?
No plans as of yet.

I haven't read anything by Michener, but I'll have to pick up some of his stuff next time I go to the library. I enjoy historical fiction along those lines. Any of his books you'd recommend in particular?

The only other ones I've read are Poland, Hawaii, and I feel like I"ve read another but I forget. People highly recommend Texas and Mexico, but I haven't taken their advice yet. I like Poland a lot. But by far everyone reads Mexico. So maybe try that one?

LOL oh please. You've never heard of one of the most popular philosopher until you played a game... yet you're going to have me believe that you somehow discovered Machiavelli and are going to read it leisurely? LOL right. You probably went to Amazon and copied somebody's reading list.

I'm reading 'My First Movie'. It's full of interviews with directors and they discuss the process and paths they took during the production of their first feature directorial debut.

I'm about halfway through it right now. Some of the interviews in the book are quite boring an exhausting, but I've found most of them somewhat entertaining, to say the least.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I also highly recommend Gary Jennings' books:

Aztec
Aztec Autumn
The Journeyer
Raptor

Also, if you haven't read Roots, you must pick it up. (thumbs up)

So I have to be philosophically knowledgeable and educated to read these books?
I cannot read them just because I want to?

So since I did not hear of Nietzsche till "playing" a video game, I cannot read his stuff also?

I'll be sure to get your permission next time I want to read a book

Please

Oh geez. Get off your high horse already. At least he's trying to expand his mind, regardless of where he heard of Nietzsche. Maybe someone told him about Machiavelli or he read about him in a book.

1) A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. I guess it's classical fiction.
2) It's kind of long-winded, but if you can look past that it's pretty good.
3) Probably the Sword of Truth series.
