I let one of my friends borrow phantom pain and he's never played any MGS games before. He loved it and played it mon stop until he finished it. I never finished it and I think it had to do with the open world style and yea all the mechanics at the time had me confused.

I remember a horse being involved, then a bunch of super natural stuff happening and I am also not into base building either because I'm too technical most the time and I don't usually have that much creativity.

Back into No Man's Sky with the new Corvette update. Buggy but fun so far. Also back to Riftbreaker with its new co-op update. Still a fun rts/tower defense base builder game.

I've had the game since launch, and I tried it back then and didn't get hooked. I just started it again out of curiosity last week and NOW I'm hooked. I'm still a little lost at the moment, but I'm learning.

i went undetected on the first real mission (post-prologue). by killing everyone.

apparently that is frowned upon.

It only matters if you want to get a better codename (not sure if Phantom Pain gives the player a codename at the end).
I think the game force-failed the mission on me. I can't remember. I kinda gave up after that and getting to the oil rig thing where you're building your paramilitary

Deadzone Rogue.

first impression was negative, but i gave it a solid hour of gameplay, and it grew on me.

FPS with some unusual choices. Movement is not what you'd expect out of a modern FPS, and the shooting is dependant on a roguelike progression; you start a run, pickup in-run upgrades, and permanent upgrades at the end of the run. You have 1 life and once you die you start back from the beginning.

Overall it's an interesting take on the genre, and it sits comfortably next to Ziggurat 2 and Roboquest as another, distinct shooter roguelike.

Madden '26 and Forza Horizon 5. I'm basic af

Built a gaming PC after 20ish years of only gaming on various Xbox consoles. I'm loving the performance upgrade (and ultra-wide support) and even built another machine from spare parts (and an MSRP Arc B580) to use on some of the TVs in the house. Gotta start moving through my backlog

oh yeah, Deadzone Rogue definitely deserves a spot on the shooter-roguelike shelf.

It’s a pretty decent puzzle game in the spirit of Myst and Riven. Some of the puzzles are a bit obscure with insufficient clues that there is a puzzle to solve so one wanders around trying to figure out what to do next. When in doubt, stick the new thing into the same hole you stuck the old thing. The graphics are pretty. The game engine is not optimized and gets the fans cranking to generate the not terribly complex graphics.

well, Deadzone was fun.

It's a shooter with some unusual "modern" mechanics. You have a instant dodge button to get away from trouble. Both enemies and player are glass cannons, you quickly become ridiculously overpowered and mow down mobs by the dozen with tons of fireworks effects - think, whole screen filled with lightning bolts that shoot from your bullets, AOE'ing everything.

Game *was* fun, but it's short. Short short.

You start as a normal shooter, and have a single room to deal with, kill mobs, get 1 perk. Loot drops like Borderlands. Then you get another room. 30 rooms or so is a single run.
Quickly you advance past the "have more ammo in your magazine" to "your bullets shoot bullets that shoot other bullets" overpowered perk combinations. You do that and start approaching the game less as a shooter and more as a "build perks together" game.
You also get permanent unlocks as you play - more ammo, more speed, more shields, etc. And those will cap pretty soon, after which there is no more progression outside of a single run.

So you start as a normal FPS, quickly devolve into a "lights 'sploding across your screen" mob nuker game, and then .. it's over. Because you hit a progression wall, you get to the point that, if your perks don't line up well, you can't finish a run, and if they do, you nuke everything by just pressing fire. And you'll burn through the content in an instant.

It was fun, but, it's done, and there's nothing more to do. I don't want to play a half hour of a 50 rooms gauntlet run and have to quit out just because the lightning perk didn't show up in the RNG.

7.5/10

i would say that Roboquest has more content.

i would say that Roboquest has more content.
It also looks visually easier to play. Deadzone just seems too chaotic and it is not easy to make out what's really happening because the fireworks are obstructing the player's view too much.

Still ass deep in Jedi Survivor.

Progress is slow because my damn kids want to be around any time I play, and it's not healthy for them to have too much screen time so my playtime generally gets limited to about 1-2 hours a week.

I've brokered a new deal with them where I won't progress the story without them around, but I will do exploration to power level etc without them around.

Whups. Tons of fun side content in the game that while not following the Tanalor main plot is still narratively interesting (light saber welding raiders?!).

Currently stuck in a messy boss fight with three separate lightsaber welding enemies at once and it ain't going great. I think there is a way to backtrack and fight each one solo though so I am going to take that option.

Anyway, what they don't know can't hurt them I guess.

What an absolutely fantastic game, just top notch.

Trying Firmament. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get around the unchangeable key bindings. It is ridiculous to have no way to change the bindings in a modern game. WASD is all you get for movement which sucks for left-handers. I ended up programming a wireless ten key to mimic the WASD keys but there is a slight lag. The game is pretty but conventional so far.

I also just started on INFRA. No opinion on it yet.

I have just got back into New World after many months due to a major content update, new quest line is pretty fun, but the new voice actors are terrible. Also, it sucks that they still don't have cross region character transfers...their whole server setup is still problematic.

I also have been playing BF6 a bit the last couple of days, just picked that up on steam.

Tried my best t avoid paying $70 for it but between my brother and son nagging me to buy it and hop on I caved in. I couldn't get into the beta earlier so didn't really know how it played. I've only got about 5-6 hours on it so far and I'd give it a 6/10 so far. It's fun, and I last night I got to play with some old clan friends for the first time in at least 5 years or so so that was nice. But I'm still adjusting to the playstyle and navigating the menus and customizations. For instance, I'm playing support mostly, and I'm trying to complete the support specialist assignment to be able to drop the ammo pouch, but I'm not progressing on it for some reason. IDK, have to play it more.

The BF6 weapon upgrades needs like 15hrs on each weapon to unlock all the things. I mostly play medic or support as well. I think that's feedback I've seen on steam forums where someone from Dice replied asking what would be an ideal grind time for weapon unlocks. So there may be a change coming related to that.

I mostly play with randoms and every team I've been on looses since people don't play the objectives. But I am enjoying it. One thing I don't like is the bloom effect or the sunlight, it's nearly blinding gong from indoors to outdoors, something feels off about it.

One of these days I will get a new GPU and play more games. Surprising enough Helldivers II works fairly well (I guess it makes sense since it was also designed with consoles in-mind for the level of graphics). That is the only game I have really been playing lately, but mainly because I took a bit of a break over the last 9-10 months and just started up again. I think the only thing that pisses me off is that I lost a lot of my ship upgrades that I previously had unlocked (I lost 6 different upgrades that I know I had previously unlocked, like "Expanded Weapons Bay", "XXL Weapons Bay", "Superior Packing Methodology", "Power Steering", "High-Quality Lubricant", and "Blast Absorption"... that is 80 super rares, 690 rares and commons lost, which is easily 100+ 30-40 minute missions of decent collections (close to 60 hours of playtime)).

So just needed to chime in that I have been having a blast in Helldivers II again. I'm still a little pissed at my lost progression in ship upgrades, but I have most of the important ones back ("Expanded Weapons Bay", "Power Steering", and "High-Quality Lubricant"). Working on getting either "XXL Weapons Bay" or "Superior Packing Methodology" next (that said, I have been using turrets more since I started playing again as these have all seemed to be buffed from back when they use to just kill your team, so I should probably really get "Blast Absorption").

Had a very fun time the other day when the game kind of glitched out on us. We took too long, so the destroyers left orbit and we were left with just what we had called down (luckily I had stacked up a bunch of ammo, and stratagem weapons at the pickup site as we dropped there first, cleared it of bugs, and gave ourselves some reserve weapons/ammo for pullout later. Well, we would have been totally screwed had we not done that. I popped my last turret on the run back to the pickup point (chose the rocket turret as the end almost always has a bunch of heavies pop up on you) and out of no-where a dragonroach pops up (didn't have any the entire map, but it comes in for the end), and it fried two of the four of us on it's first pass as we hadn't been paying any attention to the skies as we were so busy dealing with 4 chargers, 1 behemoth, an impaler, and 2 titans. Needless to say, we had our hands full just trying to dodge everything while trying to get a shot off to kill things in between, so we certainly didn't see the dragonroach until it burned 2 people to death.... So now it is just two of us left, with no reinforcements and no new backup weapons/strategems/ammo... I tried to draw the dragonroach to me as I used an expendable anti-tank on it to get it's attention, and ran towards a path that would take the dragonroach into view of the rocket turret, which managed to finish it off. Two of the chargers also were following me, and were also taken out by a combo of the rocket turret and another expendable anti-tank. While this was happening my teammate managed to call in the emergency extraction, but we had to last 2 minutes still. I believe he also managed to kill one of the titans and was mainly trying to focus on taking out a swarm of hunters that were probably the worst threat to us as we could survive dodging the remaining titan, chargers and impaler while wittling them down (we both had thermite grenades, and I had one of the armors that gave you 2 extra grenades, so I had 5), but the hunters could outrun us and overwhelm us if we didn't take them out.

Well he had a hellbomb backpack that he drops and I didn't realize he was the one who had them or that he still had one left, and I just, and I mean just barely escape the blast, and I think only because I had used my second to last stim to heal up and it was still healing me as the blast goes off.... I think this also threw off the landing of the escape suttle as it didn't land in the landing zone but bounced away and finally landed with its cockpit down in the dirt, but the tail facing the sky leaning next to a rock outcrop about 100 meters away from the proper landing zone. We both area like "WTF?", and then start running. Another dragonroach spawns at this time and is coming in at us while we are just running (we are no longer even attempting to fight back as we had almost nothing left by this point and certainly had nothing to take down the dragonroach). When we get to the shuttle we are trying to figure out how we can even get in, as it isn't climbable and the opening in the tail was up above our heads. We manage to find a spot where we could partially climb the rock outcrop and we just attempted to dive forward into the back of the shuttle, just as we make the dive, the dragonroach breaths fire on us and the shuttle. My teammate makes it in. My dive didn't put me in, but I was stuck on the rock and on fire. I use my last stim and dive again for the back and then the shuttle takes off backwards, and off we went.... It was insane and hilarious at the same time.

Wow, that is weird. What happened to your upgrades? Was this a bug or something? Quite unfortunate if they lose your progress.

RIP New World.
It is still around, they did an update recently, level cap up to 70 and some other updates. Still, I am a bit annoyed at how they manage the server situation, and more frequent updates would be more welcome.
