We do still have a strong American-made entertainment industry in this country, so you could spend the money on violent movies, porno movies, dumb movies, and strip joints.

Married with 2 kids so I should be looking at $1800. With no credit card debt just a mortgage I got my eye on H&K USP Elite .45ACP.

I want to say you should buy something American, but that's a good choice. I'd go with a Tactical instead though. Quiet shooting is so much more fun.

Hey, come on now...guns are one of the few things we're still REALLY good at making. It's not like a TV, if you can't find an American gun you like, you're not looking hard enough ;)

I have quite a few American guns, but they're generally just toys (aside from my ARs, M1As, and other rifles.) But my American handguns (Kimber, Wilson Combat) are just high end showpieces. Neither are reliable enough to carry or bet your life on. For real life, I'll go with the European standards of H&K, Sig Sauer, Glock, and Walther.

Good guns are like good cars: they come from Europe.

Well I don't know about guns, I like Sigs and Glocks, but I also like Smith and Wesson. On the other hand, I do know cars...and good cars don't come from Europe. Cars with a lot of complicated and unreliable features that you have no earthly need for come from Europe. If that's how they make guns, count me out :D

I haven't decided if I should throw it in to savings or use it to pay down my car loan. I am leaning towards the car loan at the moment.

This is considered refund so at the end of the year come tax time...it will be computed as additional income. Hope, I'm wrong.

Got a mail last week saying that the 3K refund I got fm my tax in 06 is additional income...come on, that's my withheld money and they like to tax it again. How abt giving me interest for keeping it the whole year.:p

If by 'good cars' you mean poor reliability and high maintenance costs then you are correct. Mine has seen the shop over and over and it's always high cost for the parts and high for labor. Cup holder broken? That'll be $300. Rear view mirror? $500. Compressor? $500+ labor. Cooling fan? $600. Water pump? $300. I could go on. Fine German engineering my ass! :|

Edit: We will either use the rebate to pay down the CC or put it toward a new 'fridge.

Do you have an Audi? Your repairs should be covered by the warranty unless it's more than 4 years old and in that case...time to get a new one.:)

Buy euros so I'm protected when dumb policies like this one push the dollar even lower.

My family's $1800 check is going straight to the savings account.
If you want to get a better return, go to your bank's major branch (usually in the city/downtown) and covert the $1800 to Euros. Deposit that.

Deposit it into what? A foreign bank account? If you try to deposit it into your US bank account, won't they just turn around and convert it back to USD? (serious question)

Will you really come out ahead after transaction fees? (I assume there is a fee for converting the currency and you don't get the exact exchange rate)
