I'll either put it towards my credit card bill or drop it into savings (ie: not helping the economy at all)

$1500 here. We don't have any debt; we'll probably use it to remodel/expand our half-baths into a full bath with a nice spa tub.

I want to say you should buy something American, but that's a good choice. I'd go with a Tactical instead though. Quiet shooting is so much more fun.

Hey, come on now...guns are one of the few things we're still REALLY good at making. It's not like a TV, if you can't find an American gun you like, you're not looking hard enough ;)

I have quite a few American guns, but they're generally just toys (aside from my ARs, M1As, and other rifles.) But my American handguns (Kimber, Wilson Combat) are just high end showpieces. Neither are reliable enough to carry or bet your life on. For real life, I'll go with the European standards of H&K, Sig Sauer, Glock, and Walther.

Good guns are like good cars: they come from Europe.

This $600 isn't free money; you're just borrowing it from yourself in the future.

that isnt entirely true, if you are a student and not planning on being employed the next year you get it for free

As I understand it, the money decreases sharply after $150,000 household AGI. So I am expecting nothing.

Regardless, this is a moronic "solution" to our problem...frivilous spending is what put us here.

Actually I looked and I wasn't impressed with the .45 ACP offerings in the American made guns. I thought about getting a Kimber in .45 ACP but I am not a big fan of the M1911 style. I know sacrilege. I have a Para Ordnance P14 .45 ACP it iis a good shooter just don't like the M1911 style. I found the H&K .45 ACP Elite and it doesn't have the mushy trigger that H&K USP pistols seem to have and Elita has 6" barrel. The H&K Elite .45 ACP has a great trigger pull and I like the De-cocker and safety setup on the gun.

No debts, figured I'd put it in the bank or my 401k with the rest of my money if I get anything. But with the political landscape looking like it is, I think I'll use it to buy another one of the "assault weapons" that always show up on proposed "assault weapon" bans before one of the gun grabbing neo-communists get into office.

Either buy some home office furniture for the wife for when she works from home or pay down the car loan - her choice.

So there's a 50% chance I will do my bit for stimulating the economy.

If you want to get a better return, go to your bank's major branch (usually in the city/downtown) and covert the $1800 to Euros. Deposit that.

I'm going to use it and some more of my own money to buy an M1 Garand and a case of ammo for it.

If you dont already own an AK you could pick up one and a case fo ammo for it for under $600 too.

AK for $350 at aimsurplus.com

I already own an AK type rifle so I figured might aswell get something for a bit longer range work.

so did you get rid of the Lightning?

Nah, it's still sitting around in the garage. Still about 6,000 miles on her. Could be one of the most lightly driven 2001 Lightnings in existence. :p I haven't taken it out in 2 or 3 months.

Don't know.

I'm supposed to close on the sale of my townhouse in March, assuming no major hangups, I'll hopefully make some progress on CC bills that I've been letting grow as of recent.

If I can pay down the balance of my CC debt by at least 4 or 5K by then, I might buy some stuff that I don't need (new mobo, cpu, ram, vidcard, and power supply) ..... Otherwise It'll go into the CC.
