One of the women I'm seeing is a gin drinker, so got a bottle of Sipsmith for tomorrow when she comes over. I've heard great things about it. Also just made a big pot of Jose Andres's Mom's Lentil Stew from one of his cookbooks, as seen in the background. Ridiculously good and healthy vegan stew. Cool technique where you simmer tomatoes and onions in the water with the lentils, remove them, then puree the tom/onio and put that back in the stew at the end as a great thickener.

Nice, I used to drink gin but have shied away from it in the past few years. I've read that Sipmith is good but never had the chance to try it.

I got this this morning, along with a bottle of akvavit, and Malört...

I've been on a bitter kick lately. After posting about Malört elsewhere, a Danish friend sent me a bottle of this...

This is exceptional, and I'm trying to find it locally. I asked at the liquor store, but it didn't sound promising. It doesn't appear to be in the state, but a regional chain has it in VA. If the local store falls through, I'll see if the chain can get it in their MD store.

44% alcohol. Fun fact: You can buy this in grocery stores or other non liquor establishments. It's categorized as a food supplement by the government. I got these from amazon. If you drink enough to feel it, you earned that buzz. I think it would come up before you got enough down :^D

I can vouch that Sipsmith is a very good gin and also very smooth, so very easy to over imbibe, I mean, I'm just sayin'

Sipping on some of the Remy Martin Tercet I purchased a little over a year ago. I'm surprised at how well it has aged since I opened the bottle. I know not ideal but my collection has grown so much that sometimes it takes awhile to get back to a bottle.

The flavor profile is definitely different compared to when I first opened it. It is hard to put into words. The best way I can describe it is it tastes like an old book smells. Like a book from the 1930's that hasn't had the spine cracked in decades.

Anyway......

Not tonight but a shipment just arrived. We had the chance to go to the Gouden Carolus brewery in January and it was freaking fantastic. My new favorite Belgium beer brewery. Zundert 10s are great too and rounded out the shipment with some other good looking beers I haven't tried yet

Learned that Kona Brewing is really two different breweries effectively sharing the same labeling etc.

If you're on the mainland and have a Kona, it's brewed by InBev using Kona recipes, but not Hawaiian ingredients.

However, if you're on the island, anything with the "ribbed for her pleasure" style can is brewed and canned on the island using Hawaiian ingredients and water.

Shits like night and day I kid you not. Will stop by their Pub before we head home sometime this week.

Toasted Coconut Brown Ale, a combination so good I am bewildered that this is the first time in my life I am trying it.
