What are you doing to save?

Just like the title says.

While gas, groceries and what seems like everything else is going up in price what are you doing to stretch your dollar?

Myself, I have been trying to ride my bike more often. My commute to work is under 2 miles so I try to drive as little as possible. I also find that I tend to shop around more for things that are on sale like cereal, bread and milk. Where before I would just go to one grocery store and get everything no matter the cost.

What about you?

I seriously don't understand why people are hurting. I've only noticed a difference in gas prices, and it's nothing I would even come close to complaining/worrying about. Do most people not know how to manage money at all? if you know how to manage money, you shouldn't have to make any adjustments of any significance yet.

EDIT:READ AS:::Don't live paycheck to paycheck and you will have no problems.

I'm starting to shop more at Sams Club. I started buying gas there too.

Food has gone up significantly as well. You also don't have to buy heating oil.

I buy food once a week, and haven't spent more than $60/week in 2-3 years.

You must not buy groceries.

Food prices are the highest they've been relative to average income in nearly 60 years.

As I said, I buy food once a week and haven't spent over $60/week in 2-3 years. I don't buy cheap shit, I just don't buy more than I need.

Or maybe they do know how to manage money and are being pro-active about changes in their budget.

Changed the way I drive. I am not by any means a crazy driver, but I used to speed a lot. I have started doing the speed limit or only 5 over tops (was doing 10-15 over) on the freeway. Gas mileage on my car jumped from ~21 to just under 27 on my last fill-up. If I keep this up, I might be able to hit 30.

Also, been buying more cheap food to bring to work, rather than eating in our cafeteria all the time.

This is something that I have been trying also. I allow myself to eat out on $10 a week so around $40+/- a month. That has saved me a considerable amount of money considering I was spending around $100 a month eating out before.

nothing really different. I already try to be frugal and live under my means. I have a budget and keep track of my spending. I put aside money for any purchases I want and try to save up for it. But most of the time I don't make any major purchases.

I clip coupons and try to get in on any meal promotions or free items. Maybe even try for the free chicken sandwich tomorrow at McDonalds.

I eat take-out less, buy generic more at the grocery store, and don't drive up to see my parents as often.

You must rarely eat at home. My bare minimum is 160 a week now for just me and has nearly doubled from 6 years ago. Granted, I'm a body builder so it's a lot of fresh meat, but still.

There is no denying food prices have shot up.

im not hurting per se, but while gas is the most obvious of the pricey items, my food bill for 3 kids and me has gone up a good bit too. lots of things are costing more already, its just not as prominent as the gas hikes.
