What are the unspoken/unwritten rules of fountain drink refills?

If the found drink machines are accessible by the general public then it's free. But how many times can you refill your cup?

I'm going to limit you to one bathroom break and let the rest take care of itself.

Say you don't want a drink and ask for a glass for water, then just get sprite so they won't know, works for me all the time..

As many times as you want. But when they move the machines back behind the counter because that's cheaper than leaving them out in the seating area, you'll know who to blame.

How about as many times as your greedy a** can get away with it? Unfortunately YOU have to pay the price for consuming such crap.

1 refill during the meal
1 refill as you walk out the door and leave

so 3 mega servings as nothing comes in 8-12oz size.

It depends on how many people are sharing the drink. For example, if you get one drink for you and your three friends, obviously you'd need to refill it 6-7 times since everyone was drinking out of it.

No limit if you bought a meal. Once if you're just going in with a cup in your car - but it must look relatively fresh (not used more than once previously) and be from the same establishment (not necessarily the same location).

These are the unwritten rules of fountain pop.

So you'll walk in a place only to fill a drink, order nothing, and then leave? LOL

The only rule I'm aware of is if you get ice, you MUST get more than you want and slowly pour out the excess.

You have to add a bit of your drink to it before you pour out the excess ice. That allows you to pre-chill the cup as well as create a sugar coating on the ice, ensuring maximum flavor retention and cooling efficiency. Everyone knows this.

none. You bought a X size drink where X = small, medium, large.
Not 1.5 or 2 X size drinks.
