What are the signs to look for and how can I tell him to not be so obvious of his habit? He's a good kid so I don't anything bad to happen to him.

Thanks

Have you been listening to too much propaganda recently? He's not gonna turn into a bad kid just cause he toked up

Well, here are some side effects of using marijuana:

If you smoke joints, you risk damaging your lungs or getting lung cancer just like if you smoked cigarettes. Since most people don't smoke joints like cigarettes (I'd say most recreational users don't go over 1x week.. for me it's like 1x a year) this may be a moot point.

It's not exactly clear how the THC affects brain function but I've heard that excessive use can lead to memory problems.

No, it won't turn you into a loser or a bum unless you're predisposed to be one.

wtf? I replied and my reply dissapeared.

Anyways, to see if your friend is smoking:

He may laugh at nothing and his eyes will be red.

What marijuana will do to you:

Excessive use can affect memory and could cause problems with lungs if smoking joints

What marijuana will NOT do to you:

Turn you into a loser or bum or move you on to harder drugs unless you're predisposed to do these things. Most people I know only smoke it 3-4x a year.. maybe 1x a year in my case :)

edit:

Oh wait, it didn't dissapear.. the forums just didn't want to show the second page (or even say there was a second page) for some reason.

No need to "look" for the signs. Give hiim a few years, he'll be as smart as a brick.

That would be a terrible thing to lose.

Most people that have smoked it will tell you that's not true, but don't take their word for it because they don't remember. ;)

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just got my grade report in. Spring Semester = 4.0 on 13 hours :D

best part about it? I went thru at LEAST an eigth of hydroponic every week that semester. for non-tokers, that's a very decent bit...

marijuana doesn't make you lazy. it doesn't make you stupid. if you're a lazy, stupid person, however, it will be made very obvious... ;)

Like everything else, it depends on the person. But no, I agree with you.. Using cannabis does not automatically do anything like that.

IMO, it's one of the safest drugs on the planet. Aspirin is more dangerous.

LMAO! I just read through this thread, and I think it is by far teh best MJ thread EVAR.

Side effects of marijuana? Hmmm. For me it was laughter, being in the company of friends, fun times, conversations, an increased appreciation of music, contemplative thought, increased appreciation of food, etc. Marijuana is truely bad, bad stuff. :D

Are you talking short term or long term?

Long term, not much, aside from the fact that MJ chars the insides of your lungs every time you inhale.
It's marginally less harmful than cigarette smoke but same overall effect. Even if you toke through a bong it's not going to cool the smoke down enough; to get the smoke to the point where it's "harmless" it would be so dense you couldn't inhale it.

The memory loss thing is pretty much a myth. The only thing you want to be careful of is using with alcohol, and possible addiction. Yes, you CAN get addicted to pot.

The memory loss in the LONG term is PROVEN.

Smoking cannabis in the long run will cause un-severe memory loss, but significantly more than any loss you would normally encounter from a non smoking healthy person.

The smell is VERY distinct and hard to hide.

And smoking a "Spliff" is equiv to smoking 10x Cigarettes, and does 10x the amount of damage.

If i get someone telling me im wrong i will go and get proof ;)

Dan
Prove that a joint is 10x worse than a comparatively-sized cigarette.

Wouldn't the fact that you're eating it mean that you have to eat more of it for the same effect?
That's true, but the only thing you're ingesting is THC, which is basically harmless.

No, when you burn bud, the flame destroys a large chunk of the THC and other cannabanoids. Baking alows you to keep all the cannaboids that would otherwise go up in smoke. BTW, what would the danger of eating an extra brownie be anyway?
Unlike your lungs with smoke, your stomach is designed to have food in it

The above was taken from a terrorist training manual that I found online, I wouldn't actualy have any first hand experience with any of this :D

Terrorists eat marijuana?
What don't they have to do with marijuana?
They don't eat it, they grow it!

It makes me wicked paranoid, on a level that can only truly be appreciated by someone that's experienced the same effect. Sooo scary....

MacGaven, I understand where you are coming from and I do want to help out. Marijuana is not something that anybody should play around with. Your friend will start smoking a joint occasionaly, then he'll move to blow and before you know it he'll be on the corner giving hand-jobs for crack. Your friend is lucky to have somebody like you who isn't afraid to stick his nose into somebody elses business to do the right thing.

Actually, I have had a friend experiment with LSD and Acid after using Marijuana in High-School. He said that he only tried it once with another person and I really don't know what became of him after he went off to college.

I think if I had any concerns for my current friend, it would be that he not move onto stronger drugs than marijuana, as I am fairly positive that he smokes marijuana on a regular basis.

I believe in everything in moderation and I know personally that this is a hard rule to follow when it may come to addictions, appetites, or even desires. I would recommend that a person smoke in moderation, drink in moderation, eat in moderation or even watch television in moderation.
I wish I had LSD...and acid, I wish I had acid too. :p

Anyways yeah, psychadelics aren't bad either...they are probably physiologically safer than smoking marijuana...
