These are mine:

$500 for a 17'' LCD Dell monitor back in 2003
$400 for a Sony DVD burner drive back in 2002
$400 for a Geforce 4 video card back in 2001 when GTA 3 came out.

I don't think I ever spent more than $250 on a single part.

I did buy an entire computer way back in the day for around $800 I think.

Techbargains.com and even the deal forum here have save me a ton.

I think I got 4mb for the same price around that time. I had to wait in line at Computer City (now long gone) to get it though.

Pretty much any graphics card I've bought past a 8800gt. To this day two 8800gt's in SLI coming in at a grand total of $180 still perform visually the same as a $500+ 280GTX.

What was an 8800GTX when it came out ? 500 bucks or so ?

It had to be that, unless you count my monitor/tv.. I paid 1200 for my 37" westinghouse, but it gets used for console games, bedroom tv, etc.

Video card was a disgusting waste of cash. Monitor I have no regrets about.

I paid $299 for 1GB HD at Incredible Universe in Arlington TX in 1995. It was the same night that Windows 95 was first available to the public.

Incredible Universe was owned by Radio Shack, who eventually sold it to Frys.

pics? what made it so expensive?

It's basically a giant aluminum heatsink.

I bought a Zalman TNN-500 back in 2005 - I think you can get them now for under $1500.

About $115 for a 7200RPM, 100GB 2.5" ATA-6 hard drive for my notebook when the previous drive died after an accident with a falling book back in September '07.

^^ somethings wrong here.. ^^ yea im broke.. I paid $329 for a geforce 6800GT right when they came out and I'm pretty sure thats the most I've ever spent..

wait no, I spent $2,800 on a panasonic toughbook a few years back.. that was right after my $2,200 Alienware knockoff laptop bit the dust from the most minor of falls. I guess you could say I was overcompensating, but my little toughbook has held up very well over the years. I consider it money well spent.

The most I ever spent for any one part is $100. Needless to say, I'm not exactly bleeding edge anymore... :p

(no, a laptop doesn't count as it is one integrated unit)
