A friend of mine is getting ready to enter a bench press competition. what warm ups should he do the day of? how many days or hours should he be off before the competition, ect. all opinions welcome. thanks

also they say to lower the bar down from 3 to 4 seconds and thrust up, if you are in a competition than shouldnt you conserve that energy and go a little faster?

You gotta consolidate your bench threads, man. Relax, lol.

He should do his normal warmups. There is plenty of info about warming up. He should get up to around that weight in increments. You really can't conserve any energy in an actual competition due to the pause at the bottom of the movement. They tell you when you can move the weight again. There's very little/no storage of elastic energy due to this. Therefore, he will be able to lift less weight with powerlifting form than with normal gym form.

EDIT: Also, man, you gotta try to research this stuff before you ask here. Asking every question that pops into your head makes you less self-sufficient. You can find the same info by googling and that saves everybody a whole lot of energy. It's a suggestion - take it or leave it.

7 days of complete rest. Go to the gym to weigh in only.
My last heavy bench day (basic exercises only) will be 9 days before the contest (combined with a light Deadlift day). My final heavy squat day will be 12 days out. 7 days out I'll do moderate shoulder, arms, and lats training. I gave up cardio a month ago. That's it. Recovery is the #1 factor in the final week before a meet. Have faith in the benefits of rest. The first time that will be hard...
Meet warm up will consist of empty bar x 15 reps, followed by singles only. Only the first reps count in a contest, so anything else is a waste of energy.
Good luck to your friend. Is he competing in the USPF Las Vegas Open April 4th? If so I plan on destroying him, Bwahahaha. Joking only 🙂
