What are some testing methods to tell if a substance is what I am told it is.

I ordered a product from China. Not going to say what it is. But they told me it was 99% purity. What are some of the types of tests that can be run to tell if something is indeed what it is claimed to be? Just need a few of the methods so I can google them and call around and find a lab to do the testing. Thanks!

I'm just trying to test if a certain substance is what they say it is. I realize different tests might apply, but can you just throw a few of them out there rcpratt so I can start calling around and figure out which one I'm going to need? Much appreciated.

Naw, not testing for illegal drugs or whatever Ns1. Need to see whether granules of something are really granules that they were represented to be. Thanks.

Oh, I see, you want to test for purity. If it's an element or a salt, x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy would work. If it's an organic compound I'm not sure.

Thanks so much Darwin333, That gas-chrom and spec will get me started.

But Dance Safe? LOL, I googled that and it looks like testing narcotics at raves lol. I'm not talking about anything illegal, illicit or recreational!!!
