Game play greater than looks I always say. If the game play isn't good then all the eye candy beauty in the world wont help it.

Honestly? World of Warcraft still looks good to me today. Not because it has great technical detail, but because they dare to use all of the colors that nature has given them. I'm tired of dark, depressing games where dark grey is the brightest color you come across.

Oblivion and Mirrors Edge have the best colors of any game I've played. Wow looks like gears of war when you compare it to Mirrors edge.

I forgot about Mirror's Edge. That was a very colorful game.. Graphics aren't bad either.

I'm glad you understand the thread topic, jackass.

I'm a big fan of Grid, I think that game looks awesome.

If you didn't say it, I would have.

OP, you have a very different idea of what "looks stunning" than I do.

I think Need for Speed Shift with AA cranked up is one of the best racers I've experienced. Can't wait for Forza 3.

Crysis was beautiful, so was Far Cry 2. Doom3 and Half Life 2 with insane levels of AA look basically Pixar quality like.

Everyone throw out your fucking consoles. We need DX11 titles tomorrow.

Stalker CS with all the eye candy. The lighting is impressive, especially in DX10 mode, as are the textures with displacement mapping. The atmospheric effects are outstanding too.

Along with many of the games already mentioned, I felt that Call of Juarez was a beautiful game. Then again, I have XP, and haven't seen any of the above using the DX10 codepath.

Only recently have I seen Crysis/Warhead maxed out with AA (used to have to settle for 'high')... Nothing comes close.

WoW is visually impressive with all settings cranked.

going to disagree with you there , it's not impressive any longer.

Oblivion with the QTP3 texture mod = amazing. Then add in the foliage mod for nice big trees...

That's a 6GB file full of just textures.

There's a difference between a game that looks impressive because it's photorealistic and a game that looks good because of the art style. Both paths have their own merits but the only game that has really impressed me lately was Fallout 3 on the realism/immersion side. Valkyria Chronicles is my favorite cell shaded game.

Crysis: Warhead and DiRT.

Yep, heard it here.

I really like how World of Goo and Braid look incredible as 2d Indie games. I'm in a small minority group on that I'm sure.

Crysis, easily. Even if time has gone on and other games have come out, Crysis made shit look amazing. A lot of games use "tricks" to make things look good while suffering in other areas, however Crysis didn't pull any punches, which is why it brought systems to their knees.

I like the artwork in Aion, but the game isn't technically impressive. They must have a great art team though.

I too appreciate the way WoW looks.

The art, the colors, the spells, are all very colorful and visually appealing to me.

AoC looks pretty good too, but that's about all it had going for it.

Assassin's Creed made me constantly stop and just look around every now and then. Beautiful environments and animations. Jonesing for the sequel, tho I'm glad they pushed it off till 2010. This fall is busy enough, and once DA:O hits, I expect I'll be busy for 4-6 weeks easy.

The art in AION looks amazing. I wouldn't call it technically impressive either. It's pushing Crysis'ish definition, but it's still only using a modded version of CryEngine1. Crysis is CryEngine2, and they are about to release CE3.

AION still looks better than WOW (I like wow, have an account, and a lvl 80 chr). I'm probably going to buy AION just so I can explore the levels. Apparently, from reviews I've read, that the detail is pretty amazing in the game.

I can agree there. But I can't see how so many think WoW was impressive in either way.

Visually I have enjoyed games like Vanguard, Killzone, HL2, Borderlands, L4D, TF2, and Fight Night.

Tricks? What? What exactly can be defined as trickery when it come to rendering video games and why is Crysis being touted here for being free of them? I'm sure CryEngine2 took shortcuts in rendering lots of stuff just like every other engine out there.

And no, Crysis brings systems to their knees because of its badly optimized code.
