Pretty broad brush you're using there. Some parts of the South Side are actually quite nice.

As are some parts of the other cities I mentioned.

Camden, NJ and Reading, PA are both pretty terrible (although Reading has improved slightly over the past few years). Smaller cities though.

I've been through some pretty rough neighborhoods in philly, and those weren't even the worst ones. Look up the Frankford, north philly, west philly, although the latter two can be broken down into smaller ones.

It is estimated that there are between 8,000 to 20,000 members of 18th Street gang in Los Angeles County alone, one of the biggest street gangs in the country

...so in other words, they have no idea how big the gang is...

oh and I'm a little biased since I've had incidents where two guys tried to mug me and someone broke in to my car to steal my GPS...

Lindenwold, NJ. Look out camden, this city is sneaking up on you!!

Believe it or not NYC has a very low murder-rate for large cities at #50 & LA isn't much worse at #31 ... according to the Wiki Detroit is #1 (theres a shock) & Baltimore is #2.

Then where/what are the really dangerous looking places as portrayed in Training Day (LA?) & The American Gangster (NYC)?

The may be dangerous but no one is dying as much because of shooting sideways

Rofl putting hartford/bridgeport/newhaven ,ct in the same paragraph as camden is about the stupidest thing I have EVER seen.

Been to all, I always travel to the worst part of town whenever I visit a city just to check it out.

Ill second Newport (BadNewz) News, VA as pretty bad.

Parts of Norfolk, VA are bad as well.

Some friends and I made the mistake of walking across North Ave here in Atlanta late at night one day. Fricking scary.

small parts of NN are bad but there are some very nice areas around the James River. If you get to the numbered streets in NN then you do need to turn around quickly.

new york and los angeles have been so much better
in fact the crime rate in nyc has been lowest in years, and probably one of the safest cities to live in.

i used to be afraid to walk in brooklyn, driving in harlem or the bronx was scary as well. now it's no longer the same (maybe i got older, i dunno)

newark and camden, nj are pretty bad. bridgeport, CT and some philly suburbs too these days. not familiar with the west coast myself.

...Ravenholm... "we don't go there anymore"...

Dude, first time I played HL2, that section gave me the creeps with the music and limited ammo.

I've been to baltimore. Crime = d² where d = distance from the Harbor

I've been to some neighborhoods in Hartford, CT which imo looked worse than even the worst parts of NYC.
