What are some good British films

I was thinking about what are some good British movie titles. Basically Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is one of my all time favorite movies. 28 Days Later kicked a$$ too.

I liked the way both of these films were put together. They seemed to have deeper plots, better acting, and less special effects. (Ok I admit, you're not going to get too deep of a plot from a zombie film, but 28 Days was damn good for what it was IMO.)

Now I'm not into anything too hoakey like Monty Python, but I want to know about some of the other Brit films my fellow AT'ers have run into over the years and which ones you would recommend as a nice break from Hollywood.

Kenneth Branagh's interpretation of Henry V is outstanding.

I wonder, could Chicken Run be considered a British Film? 😉
 
Snatch looks like it would be pretty good. That's the same director as Lock Stock... I think I'll definately check that one out.😉

I saw the previes for Ned Devine, thats the one about the town trying to steal the winning lottery ticket off the dead guy right?

What's Trainspotting about?
 
I just read about Trainspotting over at IMDB. It seems to be along the same lines as Requiem for a Dream (another excellent movie I might add.)

they were very different imo.

and no nudity in trainspotting 🙁 at least none that i can remember, and there's definitely no jennifer connely in trainspotting.

Jennifer Connely = Uber Babe! That woman is ridiculous good looking!
 
Snatch isn't as good as Lock, Stock... still worth watching, though.
Trainspotting is ok, but extremely overrated by wannabe artsy kids everywhere.

Shaun of the Dead is thoroughly entertaining, and is one of the best non-serious movies of last year. It's not only very funny, but it pays proper homage to the George Romero films it takes reference from.

While not British, you'd probably dig Requiem For A Dream if you like Lock, Stock. I don't know why, since they are completely unrelated, but most people who like one like the other. Maybe it's just because they both have a good plot and are both shot very well.

If it needs to be British, rent some Monty Python or something 😀 <cue lumberjack song>

I thought snatch was much better then lock stock. How can you deny Dennis Farina in that movie? He was hilarious. Also had Benicio Del Toro and Brad Pitt. I thought it was great.

I tried to watch Bend it like Beckam and just couldn't get into it. I cought it on HBO about half way through I guess I'll have to give that one another try from the beginning.
 
I would get trainspotting last of all the ones mentioned so far. It's almost unwatchable and barely entertaining. Also, Requiem for a Dream, similarly themed though more nihilistic, was 10x better than trainspotting.

Sexy Beast is a good UK movie.

Dirty Pretty Things took place in the UK, don't know if it was a UK film. Excellent though.
