We understand that there are no laws that will stop the relatively small amount of gun violence we have in this country without violating our Constitution and effectively ending the principles of a free society so many have fought and died for. We don't ask for your approval or understanding from across the pond.

Relatively small compared to total deaths or total crime, maybe, although some two-thirds of homicides are committed with a firearm, so maybe not. Compared to the rest of the developed world though, gun violence in the US is relatively massive.

That's incorrect. Voter ID laws are generally found unconstitutional because they either required people to pay fees to get the necessary documents in order to get the required ID which is a direct violation of the constitution (it's considered a poll tax), or they unfairly discriminate against certain types of people.

Voter ID laws that were not ruled unconstitutional had free ID's or made reasonable accommodations to help citizens get the needed documentation.

My point was that if there can be zero financial requirements to vote (and requiring a birth certificate to get a ~$20 state ID is a pretty low requirement) then they can't be any financial requirements placed on the right to abortion or to own a gun beyond paying for the abortion or gun itself. We have laws disallowing foreign nationals from funding campaigns or buying ads, but we can't take the simple step of making sure only citizens vote. That makes no sense unless someone is benefiting from non-citizens voting.

Nobody expects participation in society (life) to be free, we have to pay our way to at least some extent. Proving your identity and citizenship to vote isn't expecting much. Going on to ask gun owners or abortion seekers to pay prohibitive fees or jump through hoops in attempts to deprive them of their rights is both wrong and hypocritical.

I'm comparing gun owners who commit crimes to gun owners who don't. A huge majority of a tiny sliver of a percent is still a tiny sliver of a percent. Over 99.9% of civilian owned guns never hurt anyone, let alone are used for murder.

Again, a poll tax is expressly forbidden in the constitution, I'm not sure why this is difficult for you to understand. We've also had 200+ years of voting and illegal voting has never been a problem, so your concern is unfounded.

With regards to charging fees to exercise ones rights, pretty much every right involves a fee of some kind, hypocrisy not found.

It only takes a few to ruin it for everyone else. That's pretty much how all laws come about. Speed limits, littering laws, retail return policies, drug laws, pollution regulation, etc.

Thats right NRA says force it on them and get them while their young! What a fucked up world you must live in.

Wow dude, you've just ascended to level 10 dumb-ass. I'm not a member of the NRA. I'm simply being practical. I someone makes the decision to have a gun in their home, the people in the home should know the basics on gun safety. That way they'll know how to respond when the gun leaps off the table and starts looking for something to shoot.*

* - The last sentence was sarcasm. Needed to make that clear since you're an imbecile.

Well you certainly earned it with your insipid reply to my post. It's a monumental stretch of illogic to go from pragmatic basic knowledge to indoctrination. You can unbunch your panties and crawl out from your safe space now.

Well you convinced me there is a legitimate reason to own a gun. In fact your argument is so convincing I just joined the NRA , turned republican, got myself a white pointy hat and cape, got a triple pass to the Ark museum, museum of creation and the newly opened museum of the bible. And I have become an ignorant asshole to finish my transformation.

Can we be friends now?

Target Practice. Competition in the Olympics involving cross country skiing. Clint Eastwood used a gun to Shoot dynamite to blow up a bridge. Making movies like the left hand of the devil. Putting horses and cows out of their misery when they have been injured badly or catch rabies.

So... What does it mean when an ignorant asshole calls someone an ignorant asshole? It's clear he doesn't understand the basics of name calling or possess the ability to see his own faults. But mostly it says he calls out that which he knows of himself. Completely unaware and fully unaccepting of when a person differs from him that person is automatically a better person than him. Poor tajjy :-(

This is one of your issues. You go from owning a gun to being in the KKK. You are an example of everything that is wrong with politics today.

The best way to solve our problems are to teach our children better and do as much as possible for the angry, disenfranchised evil/sick/criminal elements of our society until our culture changes so we don't have so many willing to kill.

Dreaming that more restrictions on the tool will be effective at making the criminally violent play nice is insulting.

Which is the most unrealistic, unachievable dream?

Playing nice will never happen, the "tool" is the only addressable aspect.
