What Android tablet does everyone recommend?

I've got the original iPad and frankly I'm ready to sell it. It's the only Apple product that I've ever owned and I'm just not impressed with it. It's slow, multitasking sucks, browsing with the default browser is clunky and slow. No flash support. Having to use iTunes to sync anything is a pain.

I have the Samsung Epic 4G and refer browsing on my phone more than my iPad ><

I'm going to regret not having GoodReader though.

Is everyone recommending the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10?

I really like the battery life of my iPad and the screen quality. I think that the minimalistic Apple case is perfect too. Just the device itself and the OS... not thrilled.

Yep, we are all waiting for the Prime. Twice as much power as the Galaxy Tab, same cost.

In fact, to be honest, the Galaxy Tab doesn't get a lot of love in the geek community. No MicroSD slots, the need for dongles to hook to a TV, and the fact that they put a skin on Android. Regular people like them because they are the closest thing to an iPad, but on the geek side the Transformer line has been by far the most recommended tablet.

Do you think the original transformer is still worth getting as a cheaper alternative? Meaning would it still hold up performance wise for the next year or two?

Oh wow, thanks guys, That looks like the tablet to get. And the keyboard is awesome - you'll be able to do actual work on it. I'll be happy to say goodbye to the iPad. It was such a pain even to get photos onto the thing to use as my portfolio.

An Android device is probably better for your use since you do photography and would like to get photographs in and out real quick at times. I posted this in a different thread but Adobe has a new Adobe Touch suite coming out for both iOS and already out for Android. Not sure on RAW support from the mobile suite but I'm sure there is an Android app that can view and convert RAW for some quick and dirty editing.

Adobe is killing Flash support on mobile devices. It should still install but aside from bug fixes, it's effectively dead.

And when browsing on an iPad...use Atomic Web Browser.

Asus Transformer Prime...nice looking device. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

If you didnt like the ipad i would recommend aganist the galaxy tab. Samsung tried hard to make that thing as apple-ipad like as possible, and it shows.

The asus lineup, especially the transformer as mentioned before would probably fit you better, especially if you didnt like the limitations of the ipad

Do note that the transformer really excels with the keyboard dock. If you only want the tablet by itself, check out the other options by lenovo and toshiba.

iPad slow? Wow that's the first time I've ever heard that. I'm guessing you've never used a gen 1 Android tablet.

FBB, you seem to be destined to be unhappy with all tablets, I suggest you score an ultralight notebook with Windows 7...

The iPad is fast, sorry, you're wrong.

Multitasking on any tablet is pretty much a no go.

The iPad blows just about everything out of the water for browsing, check out some YouTube videos comparing it with other tablets.

Flash, LOL, have you been paying attention dude?

Since iOS 5, I don't sync with my laptop, have you upgraded your OS yet?

I'd rather browse on any major tablet than any phone.

Seriously, you're going to be frustrated by any tablet, get an ultralight laptop.

It definitely lags quite a bit. The first gen iPad was way better with the version of iOS it launched with than what it has now. Now it seems like it runs out of ram every 5 minutes when web browsing. It will scroll super choppy randomly, it will have to redraw things when you switch tabs. I almost never use more than two tabs either because it just gets too slow. Even the home screen lags. I roll my eyes when I see someone say iOS never lags.

Not at full price, but at the Black Friday $250 price... yeah.

I multitask fine on my rooted Epic 4G. Browsing does suck. Lags all the time, browser crashes, needs to re-draw/re-load the page constantly when flipping to different opened windows - seems to have horrible RAM management. Flash support is nonexistent - at least Android has flash support even if it's slow, and you can't deny that for some websites you simply need it to view the site. So Adobe is not supporting it. Big deal. The fact is that a lot of websites still use it and you need some support to view them. Period. Sucks browsing unsophisticated restaurant websites for instance that have a 100% flash website that just doesn't display *at all* on the iPad and I have to then switch to my *phone* to see the website.

iOS 5. Do I have to sync for that? Can't I just update straight from the iPad?

And I have not been frustrated with my phone like I have with my iPad...

You have to sync for iOS 5, and that's the last sync you'll ever have to do...

I'll give it a go right now. Not sure how much help it'll be for this first gen iPad. I'm just so accustomed to OTA updates. Hell, all updates have been automatic since I can remember - Windows updates itself, Android updates itself. But I have to wire up my iPad and manually update it?

Another thing that I can't stand - I have hundreds of little videos on my iPad. How the f*ck do I sort it? By date, by size, by length, etc? The default video app/browser in the iPad just presents all the videos with no sorting. Where's the File Explorer equivalent on the iPad? Hell, I've never even seen a folder system. I have no idea where my GoodReader books are stored, where my downloaded files are (how do I open zip files btw?), where my photos are, etc.

You'll be updating to 5.0.1 by syncing, be sure to back everything up first via iTunes.

5.0.1 will give you Apple's iCloud services which may make getting pictures on your device easier... It also updates your device to an OS that will update in the future without syncing to do so.

How do I open zip files? A lot of times I need to download zip files containing photos. I download them, extract them to somewhere, and view them on my phone. Can I do this on the iPad easily?

Should I just not use the default browser? I can't stand it reloading tabs all the time and re-drawing pages. Significantly slows down browsing. How do I get it to open up that 3rd party browser by default for all internet links (ie. if I click a link in an email?).

Will I be able to use my iPad as a USB storage device with iOS5? Like just connect it to my computer via USB and drag like 5GB of files over to it?

Where's the file explorer?

Oh what the F*CK. Updating to iOS5

"Your iPad could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred."

Great. Now all my data is lost. Fantastic.

I did a sync/backup through iTunes before updating.

Did you back it up first?

Yes.

Now it's stuck at a black screen with the Apple logo and a progress bar. The progress bar hasn't moved in 5 minutes...

Trying to restore again now.

Back at the black screen with logo and progress bar. iTunes says "Preparing iPad for Restore." Nothing's happening.

Don't worry. Update and restore for iOS fail regularly. I've spent hours redoing failed update or restores.

And now I'm getting the same "Your iPad could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred." error message.
