And now I'm getting the same "Your iPad could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred." error message.

Try again. And again. I know it sucks. I told you I've spent hours sometimes trying to do a simple update. No one in the Apple community will tell you that though.

It definitely lags quite a bit. The first gen iPad was way better with the version of iOS it launched with than what it has now. Now it seems like it runs out of ram every 5 minutes when web browsing. It will scroll super choppy randomly, it will have to redraw things when you switch tabs. I almost never use more than two tabs either because it just gets too slow. Even the home screen lags. I roll my eyes when I see someone say iOS never lags.

iOS does lag, but its much better than an Android tablet equivalent. I used iOS5 on iPad1 for a little bit and it seemed fine to me, but I didn't use it all that much. iOS5 also increases the performance for all devices across the board, so I find it slower on iPad1 hard to believe. I used an iPad1 and a XOOM sitting next to it at the verizon store...and the XOOM was wading through molasses.

If the OP wants fast, it doesn't get much faster than iOS, especially iPad2 fast. If the OP wants customization then Android is for him, but speed aint it.

I have a Asus transformer. Loved it at first but a few things started to bug me. Maybe I just got a bad unit but to much flex. The back cover just not feel 100% secure.

And now the charging cable seems to have stopped working. Plugged it in over night and wam no power! Tried to power it on and got a red battery icon then it shut off never to turn on again. Going to try to RMA it.

I know exactly what you want - 13" Macbook Air. The current generation.

It's light, fast, great battery life, high resolution, has a keyboard and SD card reader. For photography, it's an excellent option, unless you shoot on CF or something.

There's the 11" option, but no card reader there. You also have thunderbolt for high speed external accessories.
