i love the turbo 4-banger and awd WRX when i was up by Lake George and VT; shifter could be better but overall car is great.

For some reason or another, Subarus have become popular lately and a lot of people are recommending their cars to others. They have good reliability and are good quality vehicles.

However, they don't look anything extraordinary. They have the 90s look, maybe I'm mistaken. Yes, once you drive a Subaru that is something else, but to a non-car (not me) person, what is so sexy about a Subaru?

I think they are excellent cars, but not that much sexy compared with some of the others.

That turbocharged boxer engine and AWD. Seriously, the WRX-STI is a hell of a lot of car for the money. I just wish Subaru made that wing optional...freaking cop magnet.

I don't understand either. Except for the STI, there's nothing really special about Subarus. Also it doesn't help that the B9 Tribeca is probably the ugliest car that I have ever seen.

Teh Forester can run high 13 second quarter miles - faster than a good majority of sports cars.

I don't think Audi has anything that touches the new STI. Even the new RS4 doesn't quite get it.
Touches it in what ways?

The only way that matters in America, a drag race. 😛

The new STI does 0-60 in 4.5s and the new RS4 is at 5s.

New RS4 is 0-60 in 4.5 and 0-100 in 10.5.

I traded in my 98 Jetta GLX for a 2006 Legacy. I kick myself for not doing it a year earlier. The car is a blast to drive. The other we had a couple inches of snow and the car acted like it was dry pavement on the ground. The awd is awesome. It beats all other cars in its class for safety. Gas mileage can be decent if you don't jump on it but that is so hard not to do.

If you got the time take one for a test drive.

yeah the rs4 is like a 4.5 0-60 car, and the s4 is probably like in the low 5s

then again, drag racing is pretty pointless, and the s4/rs4 are both drastically better cars (well except reliability).

i think i'd own an audi if it werent for well its god awful reliability.

I completely agree about the Tribeca, but the Forester XT and Legacy GT absolutely destroy everything else in their class.

I was never much of a subaru fan myself, until my STi. I LOVE that car and it certainly makes you look at things differently. Although I love the Legacy GT regardless of my Subaru love. I think it's a nice looking car, and if it would have a few more features available I would have purchased one over my TL.

Subarus seem to get popular and fade in cycles. I drove my cousin's 2001 2.5RS, and it has a surprisingly good torque curve. It felt like a much better drive than the '98 Honda Prelude I drove for the same amount, even though the Subaru had 30 less HP.

When I was looking at import sedans last year I test drove (on a rainy day 😀 ) the Legacy GT Limted. Right away I knew that I was going to buy that car.........and on the way home a radar detector.

It was the most fun to drive by far, IMO, and a great value.

What is the car that has the same engine as the WRX ? I think it might be a Saab ?

Anyway, is there an STI version of that car, and does it have the following the Subaru branded version has ?

Oh, and besides the brand, what else is different about it ?

AWD + Turbo with a world class warrenty system.

Suburu is a reliable vehicle and isnt priced like the cars it directly competes with (Volvo).

Note for EVO/STI fans:
Get winter wheels/tires and summer wheels/tires. Stock EVO tires are only 3 season tires and suck ass in snow.

(my cousin lives in SF so it's the same season year round)

It's the Forester XT. Subaru is one of the few manufacturers that doesn't do alot of sharing.

No, I mean some other brand of car, not a different model Subaru.

I think it's a GM corporate brand, doesn't GM own part of Subaru ? Maybe I've got some other popular Japanese brand mixed up with Subaru.

He's probably thinking of the Saab 9-2x Aero.

Essentially a WRX in Saab sheetmetal, with a few nice interior upgrades.

Back when GM was doing it's massive sales it was quite a bit cheaper than a WRX, & IMO a nicer vehicle.

The only Saab you should buy

It was so cheap a year ago.

🙁

Ahh, looks like I'm wrong then.

9-2x=Subaru
9-7x=Chevy
🙂

Yea, that's the one ! There was some kind of giant rebate deal at one time, I think.

What were the differences, btw ? Just styling, interior and exterior, or was there some difference in function, available options ?

Is it still possible to get a better deal on these than a WRX, new or used ?

Everything under the exterior sheetmetal is basically the same IIRC. There are small differences like extra sound deadening, steering rack (I believe it uses the quicker ratio STI rack), difference in options like available HIDs, probably some other little stuff I'm forgetting.

GM owned a small interest in Subaru but that was sold off to Toyota earlier this year. GM and Subaru have nothing to do with each other now AFAIK.
